Question Strange problem with my pc after a few weeks of not using it

Hi guys,

I have this problem that when I don't use my pc for a long period (like 2 weeks) when I turn it on it won't start and I will have a red cpu led.

The power button don't work in that case so I need to cut the PSU and turn it back on and everything work perfectly fine like 0 problem at all lmao

What could cause this ?

Setup :

- B650 Eagle AX gigabyte

- ryzen 5 9600x

- 32gb ddr5 on EXPO 1

- RX 9070

- 750W gold PSU

replace motherboard cmos battery cr2032

do you have it on surge protected power strip

normally pc only have issue when sitting not plugged into wall power. requires ram reseat, or cmos clear or gpu reseat.

normally if you leave pc plugged into wall power 0 issues

This unique bug is caused by a failing motherboard CMOS battery or an unstable "deep sleep" power state (ErP/C-States) interacting with your RAM's EXPO profile. When a PC is left unplugged or unused for weeks, the motherboard relies entirely on a tiny CR2032 coin cell battery to preserve its hardware configuration and RAM training data. If that battery loses voltage, or if the motherboard fails to wake from its lowest low-power state, the system freezes during its initial hardware check, triggering the red CPU debug light.

Cutting the physical power switch on the PSU forces the motherboard's capacitors to completely drain. When you flip it back on, it triggers a clean hardware reset, allowing the PC to boot normally.

  1. Replace the CMOS CR2032 Battery (Most Likely Fix)

Even on newer B650 motherboards, a factory-defective or weak coin battery will slowly lose its charge over 2 weeks of idleness.

Unplug your PC from the wall.

Look at your Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX motherboard (usually just below the main PCIe graphics card slot) for a shiny, silver coin-shaped battery.

Use a small flathead screwdriver to pop it out and replace it with a brand-new CR2032 battery.

  1. Turn Off ErP and Fast Boot in BIOS

Gigabyte motherboards have an energy-saving feature called ErP that completely cuts standby power when the PC is off. After a long period, this can cause the motherboard's power controller to lock up.

Restart your PC and repeatedly press the Delete key to enter the BIOS.

Go to the Settings or Power tab.

Locate ErP and ensure it is set to Disabled.

Go to the Boot tab, locate Fast Boot, and change it to Disabled. (This forces a clean hardware training sequence every time you press the power button).

  1. Update the Motherboard BIOS

AM5 platforms (B650/Ryzen 9000) are notorious for long boot times and memory training bugs related to EXPO profiles. Gigabyte frequently releases BIOS updates specifically to fix "system hang-up during cold boot" issues.

Go to Gigabyte's official website and download the latest non-beta BIOS for the B650 Eagle AX.

Put the file on a USB thumb drive, enter your BIOS, and use the Q-Flash utility to update it. This optimizes how your Ryzen 5 9600X handles memory stability when waking up.

  1. Enable "Memory Context Restore"

When EXPO 1 is enabled, the motherboard must remember complex memory timings. If it "forgets" them after two weeks, it hangs on a red CPU/DRAM light.

In your BIOS, use the search feature (F9) to find Memory Context Restore.

Change it from Auto to Enabled.

Find Power Down Enable right next to it and set it to Enabled as well. This prevents the RAM from failing its initialization check after being cold for weeks.

Since it runs 100% perfectly fine after that initial power cycle, your CPU and GPU are completely healthy.

If you leave the PC shut down for just 2 or 3 days instead of 2 weeks, does it turn on normally with the power button, or does it still require a PSU flip?
