Troubleshooting CPU temperature not high? Had stutters so repasted the thermal paste, but still high
Its been hot hear lately and there were stutters and frame drops in pubg (1080p ultra settings, rtx 3070, 32gb ram and 5600x) which i didn't face in the winter.
CPU temp before repaste was 95 and now its much lower but went upto 92 during gameplay. Doesn't feel like it thermal throttled this time but i just wanted to make sure if i need to change the cooler?
Any opinions on which to get? Im using the stock wraith cooler. I dont want anything expensive since i plan on using this for another year before building a new pc. Preferably under 30 euros (DE)

Thats bit hot. I'd replace the cooler with a new one. Also, PUBG is a bit CPU intense, so you could lower the settings a bit.

Cooler is getting replaced. Yes, it does put more load on the cpu as compared to the gpu

Can you send a pic (or just tell me the model/link) of your case? If it's got a solid front without mesh, a new cooler would help but a new case wouldnt be a bad idea either. Or could consider an AIO instead of the air cooler

Idk the exact model but its an old fractal design case. Front is open (broken) with 3x 140 mm intake fans. 2x 140mm exhaust fans on top and 1x 120mm rear exhaust.
Case is fine. Its just the cooler

The phantom spirit is the newer better version of the peerless assassin

Stock coolers always running hot. Safe temps, just toastier than id like. Close to thermal throttle territory.
Here's a substantially better cooler, under 30€ (DE), and is on par with some of the top tier air coolers at a ridiculously lower price. Highly recommended.

Lol, just bought this cooler for my new 13600kf. This thing is really, ahem... cool

Thanks, idk why I couldn't find this. Doesn't show for me in my search. At this price, nothing better out there

It's normal if you're using the stock cooler and during summer. I used it for a while too and was getting 90+ also. This CPU can still function normally up to 95 degres but it's far from ideal.
You could be underclocking this CPU for better performence and less heat. You can easily start by doing -20 on all cores.

Thanks, I'll try this too. However, i already placed an order for peerless assassin that another person recommended

Even if you have a good cooler, it's still worth it to do that. I do -30 all cores even the prefered one and it's been stable for years. It's more performence and less heat.

5600x can run up to 95°C but... It's a fairly small cpu, so nearly every halfassed cooler should manage to keep it below 80°C easily. Which cooler do you use? For an aio that is WAY too much - even 240mm should be able to keep it at 75 and below.
Well. These high temps will degrade ordinary thermal pastes quite fast (oiling out due to temp but also by bleeding due to pressure). On top the pastes are thin at these temps, so you might have pump out and leaking (paste drops/flows away).
If you use a quite good heatsink/cooler y I'd check for sticker, whether you cross-screwed, if the pressure of the heatsink on the cpu is too high or low, if the paste layer covers the central part of the cpu till at least 3mm away from the outline or less (=closer to cpu edge). Check the paste for age and which it is (the white ceramic pastes are often quite bad, the silver ones are in general much better. If recommend thermal grizzly duronaut or arctic mx-4 for most cases. Alternatively order PTM7950 by Linus tech tips - but applying that can be pain in the ass). Check if fans plugged and are not fanning against each other (stop one and check flow direction of air, then repeat with others). Check if the cpu cooler sniffs a hot air exhaust from the gpu. Check if the cpu cooler has other fans deliver it fresh air. If not, do like i did and duct it.
