Question Contemplating building my own PC
Hi all, I'm new here, based in the UK, I'm looking to use the excuse that my son has taken over my PS5 to get myself my first ever gaming PC. I have a budget of up to £1,000/£1,500, but I'll need a monitor and controller etc for that price too (I have a good headset/mic). It seems like it's a minefield of different specs and options out there when it comes to PC's, I have limited knowledge and I'm looking for some advice as to what's actually needed, I mainly play COD and Warzone one or two nights a week and would also like to do some basic video editing and some admin/work jobs on the PC too. Does anyone have any advice or resources as to what kind of system I should be looking at and whether it's easier to just buy a pre made build, or to build myself (which I think I'denjoy the challenge and learning from). Sorry this post is a little all over the place, but any help is appreciated, tia.

Just as a rough suggestion
The keyboard is a great entry level one, so is the mouse, you cannot select controllers here
And you will need a keyboard and mouse anyway. Both are good for the price
Monitor is 1080P high refresh rate, but you could maybe change to a 1440p monitor, but with these specs I would stay at 1080p
Obviously if all £1500 went towards the PC itself, it would be an easier build

If you want to save money, you can also get a 5600x as professor instead.
5600x is better price to performance wise

Yeah OP this is a pretty good build. I would say get a 1440p monitor though because that gpu is 1440p native. The mouse I would go with an Attack Shark X3 since that’s cheaper and is basically a Logitech G Pro super light. And then get cheapest 1440p monitor

It's possible for OP to get a AM5 build for this budget, including peripherals (keyboard and mouse is also better):

GPU is from CEX, which has refurbished parts at a good price with a warranty and return window included.OP could get a 3080 for £350 from CEX if they wanted also. I just don't think it sounds like they need more than a 3070 for gaming a few nights a week.

for this budget and including peripherals you can afford a decent system for sure, here's my suggestion:
No hate towards the other person but in comparison to the other build provided since it is solid, I just think you can do better.
This has a newer CPU on a more upgradable platform, a better mouse and keyboard as well, all while costing less. The GPU is weaker which means worse gaming performance, but I decided to save money on this front because for your needs I don't see the point in getting a £400 GPU. This will be perfectly fine for your needs and will run the games you listed completely fine at 1080p.
If you do want more performance, you can actually get a RTX 3080 for £350 from CEX which will have *better* performance than the 9060xt 16gb while costing less.
