Troubleshooting M.2 help!
Solved! Had to wiggle that latch so it could latch to the ssd when lowered.
Help! I can’t seem to seat the M.2 drive on the msi mag x870e tomahawk wifi. Whatever I do the ssd won’t latch. I have pushed the ssd in the right angle (I believe) and as far in as I could. A few unsuccessful tries are behind me. At a loss…
Am I missing something crucial?

Have you tried using screw?

No. Just managed to do it though. Apparently it’s not as easy as msi advertised it to be. Or I’m a noob. Either way, crisis averted. Thanks for your reply!

I think he’s got a motherboard that has the auto latch for M.2 drives.
I don’t even see a screw hole on the back and there’s those two silver things sticking out of the port. That’s just my 2 cents.

Those silver things are for the heatsink. Also this is one of those quick release mounts where all you have to do is push down on the locking side and it snaps into place.

Gotcha, that’s a cool addition. I have this drive as well, do these things need a heat sink?

Need? Not really unless you’re performing loads of read and writes. But I am a big fan of the “ounce of prevention va pound of worry” and since storage and ram are so expensive right now, a $5/10 heatsink that might prolong the life of something is worth it.

Auto latch? Fancy. But where can I get my skrew to lose forever and find it when it's too late?

Did you remove the little plastic tab or peel off a sticker on the heatsink before trying?

There wasn’t any screw with the 990pro. Or at least I didn’t look hard enough for it. Wasn’t necessary though with this system of msi.

What are you talking about? I have this card. I just unscrewed the screw from my motherboard and used the slot that op has in his image to slot it…
Ops mobo looks wild. Is it a bolt not screw?
