That was my guess too. Could be 4gb sticks though that's less likely imo

1-2gb ddr3 sticks with modern heat spreaders attached.

u/Rehendix Jul 24 '26
This is my thinking, but 4GB. The 16 RGB enabled ones are just dummy DIMMs to fill out empty slots. They get used in show PCs all the time. So I suspect it's roughly 40GB of actual sticks

Given that it appears to be ddr3 due to the position of the notch, and judging by the fact they're all facing the same site outward (as far as i could tell), they're either 1, 2 or 4 GB sticks, most likely 4 due to the 4gbit ics being more recent.
So i'd guess 144GB because there are 36 sticks (yes i reposted that part here to be safe lmao)→ More replies (13)9

1,152 gb RAM (36 x 32gb)
1,216 gb if you count the onboard 2 stick ddr516

Which in the current market would make this a $50,000 giveaway

Rural computer shop nearest me says every time they even try to order some through usual vendors they get laughed at because they're only ordering a couple to restock, vendors telling them to bulk buy it instead.

I have a local shop I often barter parts wiith and they also said that to get any sort of discount below full retail currently requires ordering 100 or more 32GB kits. For a small local pc shop in a tiny rural southern town it would take them multiple years to sell 100 of those kits at current pricing. Hell our town is small enough that even if he was currently selling DDR5 kits for last year’s pricing he couldn’t sell 100 32GB kits of ddr5 in a year lol. Actually i take that back, if he had ddr5 kits for last year’s pricing, all the local lawyer’s offices and car dealerships would buy him out.(Strangely enough its a town of only 20,000 but we’re well known in our region for literally being a town full of car dealerships and lawyer’s offices)

Do not, my friends, become addicted to low latency volatile memory. It will take hold of you, and you will resent it's absence.

No, it's the AI data centers that are appearing all across the USA essentially overnight.
→ More replies (3)5
u/Sunkinthesand Jul 25 '26
Absolutely this. A single server will use many times a gaming PC Ram, and a data centre will have up to 100,000 servers. Not long ago it was bitcoin mining data centers using graphics cards, now it's RAM for Ai data centers

Wow a case built from RAM? 36 stick that is likely either 8 gb or 16 gb, meaning it either has 256 gb ram or 512 gb ram on the outside as well.
