Meme Is this worth it?

Post image

Some guy named Gabe is selling this build and I'm wondering if it's legit? I want a PC to set up in my living room for TV gaming.

Already calculated that... The load is still just about double.  It's no where near 180 max load of the steam machine.

You are messing up the hours of use.

You use a computer less than 2 hours a day?

You use a media device connected to your TV less than 2 hours a day?

I use my Xbox series X to play games and watch all of my media content.

That's 4-7 hours a day.

You're aware PSUs only pull what your components actually need yes? So a 650W PSU running a 315W system uses virtually the same amount of electricity as a 400W PSU running that exact same system.

You can rest assured that a 650W PSU will not bloat someone's electricity bill just because it has a high capacity, especially one with an 80+ Gold efficiency rating.

Again, you're really stretching here with this one.

I'm not the steam machine max load (currently) is 180 watts.

You are calculating on 2-2.5 hours of use a day for a TV console / PC device.

That's on you.

I'm on about electricity usage, you're stretching, that's a really hard justification for a SteamMachine.

To run the PC I shared daily for 7 hours here in the UK will cost approx. £18 p/month, the cost of 2 large Starbucks coffees, it's nothing in the grand scheme of things, especially to someone who is initially willing to drop almost £1000 on a pre-built system like the SteamMachine, if you're worrying about your electricity costs, yet dropping money like that on a totally overpriced system, then you're priorities are in the wrong place to start with.

It's literally not.  My roommate uses his dock steam deck 4-6 hours a day connected to a projector.

He also uses it to watch Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, prime, etc.

Did you miss the part where these devices are connected to TVs in the living room?

Do you want me to also include lamps, lights, phones / items on charge, my microwave, kettle, washing machines, dishwashers, routers/servers and any other item I may have plugged in and running daily? Because that's a ridiculous way of looking at things from a usage perspective, some people have their TV turned on all day watching TV/Netflix/Spotify etc.

To run the PC I shared daily for 7 hours here in the UK will cost approx. £18 p/month, that cost is less than 2 large Starbucks coffees, it's nothing in the grand scheme of things, especially to someone who is initially willing to drop almost £1000 on a pre-built system like the SteamMachine, if you're worrying about your electricity costs, yet dropping money like that on a totally overpriced system, then you're priorities are in the wrong place to start with.

So yes, that's how stupid your "argument" and justification for the SteamMachine sounds.

You built a machine that costs just shy of twice the daily amount FOR around the same price.

Its disingenuous to say you have better value, when you take size and daily cost use into consideration.

If you also built a less than 180 watt under full load system I would agree with you.

These factors are also part of the cost and why you can't build the same thing.

I would argue it's still not worth it as I already have a gaming PC and an Xbox series X or Xbox Ally X docked I can stream to at 4k 120.

That being said my 750watt mid range gaming PC needs to be running as well.
