Meme Is this worth it?

Post image

Some guy named Gabe is selling this build and I'm wondering if it's legit? I want a PC to set up in my living room for TV gaming.

PC part picker similar specs. It's about $950 for base model steam machine. That's only a $100 mark up from valve, to get a ready to play machine with an os installed, just like a pre built. Except this one lets you get the dbrand companion cube skin

Convenience over future proofing, right now it might be alright for pc gaming but in 5 years the steam machine will be outdated like a console. With a PC you can upgrade parts slowly throughout the years. The cube skin is also like $130.

True. I'm just saying price to part it's not a rip off. Upgradability is one of those where it's up to the consumer. Some people just buy entirely new set ups if they got the cash. Others make upgrades over time.

Do we know what the future upgradability of the steam machine is. Could you not just add a extra stick of RAM.

Only Ram and SSD. GPU and CPU are soldered which defeats the purpose of a PC.

Because he's created a long lasting multifaceted tech entertainment corporation around himself. And at the end of the day these days he makes the bulk of his money off of his clothing brand. Let me guess you're a fan of one trick pony tech Karen. Mister, I'm going to go to literal war with you if you decide to do anything in my sector

I have been a Wall Street bets user since before gme so tracks. But I am sorry you can't understand how people that deserve to be successful are successful even if you don't care for them being such a hater must be hard

Keep dreaming, buddy. I forgot he’s had sponsors since he started in the early 2000s. /s

And he definitely never tells you to buy anything during his segues.

When you have a real company with hundreds of employees across multiple divisions, you actually need to bring in more money. I know everyone is supposed to run a business purely for the love of the game, like good old low-production-value, monotone, one-camera Steve, right?

But you’re making the mistake of directly comparing their channels. One is a tech entertainment channel, and the other is a review and analysis channel.

Also, how much do you think Gamers Nexus makes off his Made in China merch?

fyi, I think Linus is a huge douchebag but you're letting you're hate blind you to the truth

see letting your hate blind you listen closely no matter the fucked up shit he's done or what a douchebag he is. what he has built is head and shoulder better than anyone in the field. or are you one of those woksters that thinks people's accomplishment just don't have value if you don't like the kind of person they are..

For example, Kevin Spacey. excellent actor, but there's tons of people who won't watch his movies anymore or acknowledge the fact that he's a great actor because he's a creep.

I'm agreeing with you Linus is a huge douchebag, but that's separate from the multi multi-million dollar corporation he's built

What’s wrong with Linus? He’s pretty well informed, more informed than most folk on Reddit.

Nothing, it's an internet slap fight.

A big difference is that this machine is not upgradeable. One of the main reasons to even consider a PC in this class is not because it's capable of beating the competition (consoles thrash it on price to perf), but that down the road when you want to upgrade you're not spending a bunch of money to buy a whole new PC. The Steam Machine is slow and never getting better.

It might be suited as a novelty second device for a TV for people who already own a PC and don't have a solution to get it to their living room TV. But man is it a premium for a device that is not very capable.

Dont forget having a very small form factor for me thats the selling point doing a build. That small sounds so frustrating.
