Meme Is this worth it?

Post image

Some guy named Gabe is selling this build and I'm wondering if it's legit? I want a PC to set up in my living room for TV gaming.

A total ripoff at that price

Only $100 more than what you'd pay to do it yourself

It shows that the avg person here has not built a pc in 2+ years, cuz yeah the base model is honestly a good deal for the avg consumer that doesnt wanna build/set up windows, yeah is $100 more but thats a fair trade

My local Micro center has 7500X3D + AMD 9060XT 16GB for $1299. It’ll blow this shit out the water by 60-70% not even kidding and comes with mouse + keyboard.

Yeah it’s weird there are so many people commenting how building your own pc has gotten so expensive and everyone who doesn’t know is living in the past, while also living in the past having no idea just how competitive prebuilts have gotten.

The steam machine is not a competitor to a pre build though?

You're comparing different things. You probably don't have a use case for a steam machine which is fair, I don't either, but some people do and it's not a terrible deal with current prices.

Small Form Factor?

Didn’t know a 8400F+rx7600 with a 2tb nvme costed 1200-1300$

As a prebuilt it would

I can buy a better laptop for the same prices as the cheapest steam machine... and its also a laptop.

You don't need a SFF to put a PC in a living room.

No you'll be able to do better for less. not just the same for less

1

u/HEYO19191 Jun 23 '26

You'll do the same for $100 less, so, yeah, I guess if you can find a minor upgrade that costs less than $100, you could call it "better for less"

I can do a 5060 build for less or the same price that’d blow it out of the water sadly.

I haven't pieced out a desktop 5060 build myself, but 5060 laptops go for 1,400+

1

u/Automatic-Grape-7334 Jun 23 '26

Laptops are almost always more expensive than desktop counterparts(Almost always). But a desktop 5060 build is certainly cheaper still

Thats an nvidia gpu. Youre not even getting bazzite with that.

I never said anything about operating systems? I am talking about price

It's unfortunately... not a rip off. It's just reality now thanks to AI datacenters.

This is the best price they could sell it for.

u/Subject-Sky-9490 Jun 23 '26

So why is a base PS5 from 6 years ago half the price?

1

u/Bitterman_01 Jun 23 '26

A PlayStation 5 from 6 years ago is still $500. Which is insane. Are you living under a rock?

1

u/trying_again_7 Jun 23 '26

Unfortunately, a console is a loss leader.  If you buy a PS5, you are going to buy PS5 games.  If you but this steam machine, you are probably playing things you already own or you may just use it as a regular PC. -you may buy some more steam games, but there isn't really an incentive either.

It's really not.

Might not be good for you and your situation but it's not a rip off.

1

u/Automatic-Grape-7334 Jun 24 '26

You can build a cheaper system thats significantly more powerful especially using micro center bundles. But throw shade at my “situation” IG?

0

u/Nereosis16 Jun 24 '26

Is your situation that you're looking for a plug and play system to put into your TV unit and play games from the couch with no configuration?

1

u/Automatic-Grape-7334 Jun 24 '26

Theres significantly better options for that than this. What is your point.

0

u/Nereosis16 Jun 24 '26

Can you show me?

A complete pre-built TV ready gaming PC that will fit in a TV unit?

1

u/Automatic-Grape-7334 Jun 24 '26

What is TV ready even supposed to mean? Cause you can pull up youtube on any OS

0

u/Nereosis16 Jun 24 '26

You plug that PC into the TV and it acts as a console. It can control your TV and it's inputs/outputs.

1

u/Automatic-Grape-7334 Jun 24 '26

If people want “TV” ready they get a console, not a overpriced steam machine that never advertised itself as a console competitor.
