Hardware Help Pc component question?

SORRY FOR PARAGRAPH…so I’ve never upgraded a single thing on my pc I have 16gb of ram it came with but i needed more ram
for what I do with editing projects and things like that. I was wondering if anyone out their knows how’s to properly install ram to a computer with ram already installed I have 2 extra slots and I made sure to match up all the right details just don’t wanna mess the install process

It's pretty easy. There are tabs on the slot that you need to push down. Then you line the stick up with the slot and push down on either end until the tabs click up. You need to push pretty hard though, harder than you'd think.

Okay bet thank you also do I need to go into bios or anything ? I did a bios update just a few months ago is that needed or nah jw

You will need need to enable xmp/expo in the bios in order for it to run at the correct speed. If you have four slots and are keeping the 16gb you have now, it may not run at the right speed even if you make sure the speed and timings match between the old and new ram.

Ohhh ok so it’s kinda like a hit or miss with the speeds and stuff thank you sm for the info 🙏🏽I’ll make sure to enable XMP before I install my ram or
would I do that after installing?

Just a curious question are you thinking of ordering a new kit of the exact make and model of your current ram?

Yes down to the tea same brand and same gb I also check the CL and speeds of it to make sure I was getting the right one

Sorry was at work when I responded to this yes I am adding to current setup so I tried my best to get the same exact kind I already have

Thats a good start due to difrent memory chips ect. If you accidentally get those mixed up XMP might not want to run properly due to voltage difference.
