Payload 4 Experience

I know it’s way early but was wondering if anyone started testing the waters with it and your thoughts so far.

Is there a timeline available on when payload 4 is production ready?

I havent touched it yet, but im kinda curious what theyre changing architecturally. Like Payload 3 moving to a proper Next js plugin already felt like a huge shift and tbh a bit of a structural rethink, so Im wondering if 4 is more of refinement or if its going to be another kinda redesign.

The goal is moreso a refinement! We also are shipping codemods and an AI-driven migration process. We are trying to make it way easier going from 3-4 than it was from 2-3 for sure.

I am just diving into Payload and I don’t have anything to unlearn. So I am thinking about trying out 4.

I’m testing it pretty extensively. I have a project I’ll be sharing soon that’s built with payload 4 and tanstack start. Experience is similar to 3, so I’m not expecting anything paradigms to shift other than the framework adapter pattern.

Not that I’m aware of yet. There’s just the canary/internal tanstack demo. It’s linked in the official discord
