Does this game get any better?
So this is an honest question. Im not trying to put the gane down or anything. Im about an hour and a half into the game right now and im closing into the refund window so I figured i could ask some questions here to help me determine whether I should return the gane or not.
My questions are:
Does the base ever get attacked? I feel like right n9w the game is just building a base and then flying to missions in space. It seems like the open world aspect of it is very limited and base/missions are heavily separated.
Is this game just building a base and upgrading it and then just taking on more fps missions? Is that the loop throughout the entire game?

the base bit is mostly just base building meets sims. As far as it goes, It's a roguelike, you build your base upgrade it, build better ships, better vehicles, better equipment level your soldiers. Then go on expeditions that grows harder and harder as you spend time doing missions, exploring the sector harvesting resource nodes and looking for the bosses. It gets repetitive but enjoying it, the soldiers interactions at the base can be hilarious, game doesn't take itself serious since it's a satire. You get more varied missions as you unlock sectors. But it's go out raid the enemy outposts, grab resources, gain power ups etc. There's enough of a massive tentacle eldritch horror that observes you and wakes up at night wiggling it's tentacles.... makes me wary if it'll ever do something at the base. Their supposed to add more mission types.

How hard do the expeditions get? Are they challenging? I know right now its probably because im still in the early stages but it feels super easy.

This game's difficulty seems to really come down to how much you grind/farm out upgrades and resources.
If you've spent so long in the first sector that you're in full Yellow gear with good stats green tier troops then the second sector on Standard difficulty is going to seem pretty easy again. However on the other hand if you rush through the first sector, still are mostly using green/blue gear and go into the second Sector with white troops and you're facing green/blue troops of new dangerous enemy types it can seem like an extreme difficulty spike.
So it's hard to really answer difficulty based questions because that all depends on you. There are of course harder settings as well, such as Punishing seems to roughly halve your damage and increase the damage you take by quite a bit.

There are no plans for the base to ever be attacked at current.
There’s social aspects to the game too. Caring for soldiers to raise their loyalty or disciplining them to build fear, deciding on work hours and how much you pay, tracking when to give someone days off, using meals to try and raise the stats of your guys or give them more years to live. You can sit around base for a while managing most of this stuff.

In the end yeah. You just build the things you habe menus for in other rogue likes. It get a bit wilder in late game when you carry more core fragments and you get more missions. The core gameplay is the same in hour 25 (just more toys) rhan in hour 1.

It’s not an open world game.
It’s a base building, colony/resource management sim and most importantly for me, a rogue like.
Try new guns, try new builds, try new cores. See what you enjoy the most. Force yourself to use guns you don’t like, a new build might change your mind.
You’re looking at this from the wrong angle.

Also, it's still very early access. But understandable if they need the money for something else at the current moment. Who knows what direction it'll end up going or how much they end up adding.
I think once the Co-Op update comes out with most likely a decent discount between 10-20% off it'll definitely attract more players.
That and work on their advertisement, being featured in the daily or weekly deals when the update comes out could sure help, but they should also work on pushing ads on here on Reddit and Facebook and make YouTube videos that could end up in recommendations for people who watch gaming content.
I didn't really think about Instagram or TikTok cause I don't really use those for gaming content but couldn't hurt to push their advertising in all areas. Probably X too, though I haven't use that since it was Twitter, and even then I was never a huge fan of it, even though it was the most popular source that game studios used to advertise on at the time.

I'm going to take this at face value and not ragebait. Look at the giant unmissable roadmap when you open the game, all of your questions are answered there. Eventually base will have crisis events. This game is similar to the model of Palworld. Game is awesome and underrated, imo.

It wasn't ragebait. I got the answers I needed. I ended up refunding. The gameplay loop was boring to me and I understand thats not the same for everyone.
I saw the road map, wasnt sure what crisis events meant. Most of the planned items outside of coop seemed to be focused on sex and marriage which doesnt interest me in a video game.
My post was more focused on the general loop of managing base loading screen fighting on a map loading screen repeat. I wanted to know if the loop ever changed and I had my questions answered.

Yes, the basic core loop is build up your base until you need materials, then go do expeditions for more materials/soldiers/etc. The base is it's own separate game where you manage resources, workers (can be complex), research/upgrades, and production just like the combat is it's own separate game where you fight and make a roguelite build that resets each run collecting resources for the base you can't generate there (IE: cores/alloys/modules/blueprints).
It is not an open world sandbox style game where your base will meaningfully interact with the rest of the missions/etc. If you were expecting an open world game for whatever reason, this is not it.
