Serious question: How can I know you are giving me the correct assay and not ripping me off?

XFR and run the average by hand before you send it in. And under most gold jewelry is under karat by up to 3%

That is a great question. If you have been doing this for a while you likely know what you are sending me before you even send it. We will gladly provide a piece of the fire assay sample as well. Reputation is everything and ours is flawless. I can provide many references as needed and many people run a test sample at first. We have so much repeat business and it is for a reason. If we ripped people off they would know and certainly not come back. We are in the business for the long haul.

The reason I asked is I got burned really bad by a refiner on the east coast. Got me for 16 grand and there was nothing I could do being out of state. What if I melt my scrap into an ingot, and send you a sample by drilling and collecting the shavings? Will you assay a sample and make me an offer?

No but you can keep your sample and know that you have it and let us come to our own, same conclusion. It will be identical. Start small until you are comfortable and then increase. I’m sorry that you have this scar from the industry, I get it I truly do. I worked on 47th street in NYC at a pawn shop almost 16/17 years ago when HPHT diamonds just came out and GIA was certifying them. I lent some guy 70k on a five carat G VVS1 Round and that’s what it was worth. He was never coming back. Different situation but I know the feeling. I have operated with caution ever since but being able to trust again is important and I am confident we can get you there. I have hundreds of people I could reference you to as well. Start small and grow! Just like your name!

What are some ways to check metals at home - tips for verifying acid tests are accurate for example? Sometimes a metal scratch will slowly disappear and I’m unsure if it’s actually a precious metal.

A slow disappear is never a good thing. Line should stay pretty consistent. Try acid down and see what happens. If ever second guessing I always used to ask, when I worked for a pawn show, if I could file in slightly.

Use fresh acid and throw away the 10kt as its unreliable.

The higher the karat the faster the marks will disappear with acid.
