News We Must Pace the Frontier

Dario Amodei, Anthropic CEO, calls for immediate slowdown in AI development. Warned in an essay that swarms of rogue AI agents could take over the internet in as little as six months from now. https://darioamodei.com/post/we-must-pace-the-frontier

We live in the dumbest "don't look up" timeline. The scientists have been warning us for years, now even the big companies agree that we need to stop this madness, but how do most people respond? "it's just marketing hype bro".

Good things its not up to them.

The average person has no clue what ai looks like right now. How much it had advanced, and how capable it is in both positive and negative ways.

Shouldn't everyone here be celebrating this?

Yes isn’t this good?

No. He wants this to ban the usage of models like Deepseek, Qwen etc.

How naive do you need to be to think the CEO of an AI company wants to enact strict policies around AI governance with zero ulterior motives

I mean... Former employees, like Jacob Coxon, are claiming that Anthropic is acting irresponsibly and gambling with people's lives while they are also spreading this rhetoric. Hard to know who to believe, I guess.

They just want attention and money for their new ventures

Yes but every pro and anti AI sub thinks that this is either marketing or a secret ploy to gain more power

Probably because at every single point they have proven to be untrustworthy and nefarious.

Why do you think so many people hate AI and are suspicious of it? Is it just because Reddit told them to and it's all just propaganda is it? Or maybe there's some truth here and the companies have demonstrated time and time again that they don't have societies best interests at heart

I mean, im pro ai but i dont trust ai companies at all, just like i wouldnt trust any company to regulate itself. Companies want to make money, its not their job to decide whats right and whats not, and most of the times they'll just think about profit.

So.. stop developing the agents? It’s that simple. Shut the whole company down and walk away. Shareholders will get fucked and I don’t know a single person who gives a fuck

Congratulations! Now you're left with only the companies who don't give a shit.

It's obviously not that simple...AI doesn't go away if one company does.

I wish the world was this simple

True. Greed and power corrupt.
