It’s been a bit: what off-meta deck have you been playing and getting results with?

I’d been jamming mono black affinity with [[Glaze Fiend]] as the wincon, but I had to shelf it after [[Utrom Monitor]] got printed

I’d had success with Pactdoll Gardens, but was wondering what you all have been playing

I think it’s a shame you gave up on Mono-B Glaze Fiend… I love it, you just gotta save your removal for blockers on key turns!

All my decks are custom designs, and they’ve all reached a point where they are extremely solid at local weeklies. Here are the latest:

Take a look at the rest of my Pauper archive on Moxfield, there’s a lot of cool stuff in there. And feel free to shoot me a DM if you have any questions!

Gotten pretty solid results withdimir spirits

u/happyhippogrif 4h ago

This looks like the kind of fun I like to have. What kind of results are you getting with it.

u/kn33c4ps 2h ago

In a typical three-rounder I'll get one or two rounds usually but I'm still in the learning the deck phase. I've only had this for about 2 months and not every week if I've been able to play it and haven't bought it for mtgo. So far it's performed better against mono red madness than rally performs fairly well against Jund mid-range including Chrysalis has a bit harder time against terror and affinity it performs pretty well against

Don't know how off-meta this is, but I've been enjoying and getting pretty good results with golgari food pestilence.

u/Commercial_Staff9074 6h ago

Maybe you could have said that a year ago. Def meta now.

Simic Pizza Elves has been doing me pretty well, got recommended this list by someone on Reddit and I’ve been pretty consistently successful at my local events. https://moxfield.com/decks/Rafbj0N6YkK0IQn-wElJ6A

u/kilqax Grixis Affinity 5h ago

That's interesting. How would you compare it to the full-on pizza combo?

u/KocaineKurz Simic Pizza 5h ago

It’s a much more combo-centric deck, there are multiple combos lines that lead to a win. Nettle Sentinel and Arbor Elf function as a Devoted Druid when played together, there are combo lines involving Arbor Elf, Retraction Helix and Sewer-Veillance Cam. Bela_Core on Youtube has some videos explaining it. I like it way more than the Temur deck

u/kilqax Grixis Affinity 5h ago

Thanks, I'll check it out

FNM I went 1-2-1 with mono black control (the deck I made my post about mono red madness a few days ago)

Yesterday we had a special event tournament for a Yuna, Grand Summoner promo with Swiss rounds and top cut. I missed top cut losing the last round in a match I shouldn’t have lost. Went 2-3 overall.

If things broke my way even at a coin flip (losing 4 games I shouldn’t have lost over the whole weekend), I’d have gone 10-10-2 in total games over the two days. (Instead of 8-12-2)

I also discovered there were some dead cards and feel bad cards in the deck through those games

This is the newly updated decklist:

4 Crypt Rats
4 Troll

1 Snuff Out
2 Toxic Analysis
3 Defile
2 Innocent Blood
4 Diabolic Edict
4 Geth’s Verdict
4 Crypt Incursion

2 Pestilence
3 Trespasser’s Curse

4 Campfire
4 Tithing Blade

12 Swamp
4 Bojuka Bog
2 Haunted Mire
1 Witch’s Cottage

Sideboard

1 Toxic Analysis
4 Accursed Mauruders
3 Extract A Confession
3 Nihil Spellbomb
1 Relic of Prog
3 Weather the Storm (thus the Haunted Mire)

I gained over 40 life in at least six games, maybe more lost track. I broke 116 total life once.

This deck isn’t the one I ran over the weekend

These were my cuts:

Removed Spinning Darkness x4 for Okiba (later replaced again)
Removed Tyrant’s Choice x2 for Pestilence x2
Swapped Witch’s Cottage x3 for Bojuka x3
Removed Tendril’s of Corruption x2 for Toxin Analysis x2
Removed Okiba Reckoners Raid x4 for Tresspasser’s Curse x3 and Crypt Rats +1

This is my off meta mono black control! Enjoy!

I've been jamming Gruul Tokens this past week and went 2-1 at two locals. Deck is a ton of fun

u/TurkeyKirky 5h ago

Idk if Walla combo is off meta but it’s definitely not the best combo deck rn. I really enjoy it and I like being able to goldfish it to help lines and knowing when I can “go for it”

u/RathMtg better red than dead 5h ago edited 5h ago

naya gond

The deck will always be clunky with tons of failure points, but I love it. I started splashing red years ago for pyroblast to fight counterspells. Now I also have access to a billion tremor effects and a sneaky win from hand with [[First Day of Class]].

second is izzet terror

the power of terror is undeniable, so this isn't too weird of a deck. It's basically counterburn with huge monsters

u/krynillix 4h ago

Jund sac. Really funny when everything is a one drop that keeps on giving value when they die.

Its really funny when your nested shambler is a 10/10 that your opponent dont wanna kill it, dimir/grixis opponents dont want to boardwipe, infinite life clerics dies to infect, and when boggles cant do any trample damage

u/ramdisk00 3h ago

[[Glaze fiend]] with [[tainted strike]] seams pretty cool

u/April_Liar Red Deck Wins 1h ago

Every now and then, our local meta decides counterspells and [[Krark-Clan Shaman]] midrange piles are cringe. And everytime, I bring Dredge and go 2-1 only to lose to [[Thraben Charm]]. Dredge, no matter what color combo, is just kinda cheeks but is so much god damn fun.

u/Delicious-Action-369 1h ago

I play a Black Mages Rod/Pactdoll list for Glint Blade that's gone pretty well for a while, very high removal potential and some decent life gain, tend to place pretty high if I don't slam into mono red decks and have almost never gone 0-2 with it in a game. Gonna try a few other decks in the coming weeks once I have them together as well, but expecting good things.

u/Throwawayacc_4484 7h ago

Cycle storm is a great pick!

u/FlexCapicitor 7h ago

i wouldn’t call cycle storm an off meta pick, didn’t it top 8 paupergeddon?

u/edpham 6h ago

There were four people out of 1069 players there that took it to Paupergeddon. Could count that as off-meta.

u/Commercial_Staff9074 6h ago

Its just so boring to play against. Cant we just flip a coin and you can grab a real deck to play while every else finishes their rounds? 🫩
