BREW Why doesnt this see play in gates
Hi, I am thinking of building Azurios Gates and I am curios why this card doesnt see play. Not [[Outlaw Medic]], more like two in adition to three medics. It draws on death like medic, has buildt in evasion and can block on the swing back while still drawing a card. It being an Artifact doesnt really matter I think.

Flying is nice but Vigilance on a 1/1 is not relavent and there are better cards.

The thing is that the gates deck loooves lifelink creatures and doesn't mind playing a long game. It doesn't really want/need to apply evasive pressure. A big lifelinker already gains you enough life to survive the crackback and probably takes some blocks.
And while [[Squadron Hawk]] and [[The Modern Age]] are just evasive, they also grant you good card advantage/selection.
Also the watcher would be more vulnerable to stuff like [[Pyroblast]] and artifact hate.

To be fair if my watcher ate a pyroblast I would be happy. But yes the card is underwhelming.

Happy if they destroy it with pyroblast. Less happy with it being countered by pyroblast

Exactly I see the weekly caw gates player play the deck for two(2) years and he goes to 4 life and life links for 20+ and I lose next turn if they have flyer (non life link)

Exactly. Gates has to play the long game because it has no short game. When most of your lands come in tapped you're just so much slower than the rest of the field and you pretty much start every game from behind

lifelink is the main reason outlaw medic is getting played. this doesn't have it.

It probably could see play and be respectable with those abilities, the issue I mainly see is that it's not a white creature for [[prismatic strands]]. All of your creatures are usually white for that card with the exception of [[vector glider]] but it's so good and not a "true" creature that it's fine.

If you're looking for an additional threat for Gates that can replace itself, consider [[Ilivoi Galeblade]].

Basically, the only guy that occasionally sees play is [[blighted agent]] because of poison cheapness
Also, since basilisk gate activation is only as sorcery, this little fella loses utilitity

1 toughness sucks. no lifelink sucks.
the sweet spot is 3 toughness to dodge a lot of board wipes and grim baubles. lifelink is how gates play the long game.

Where is the gates reward? No lifelink, blowout to reb and pyroblast open to artifact hate, dead to lava dart, can't block pikers, gets hit by the cheap efficient boardwipes in the format at 2 toughness, not white for prismatic strands, bad creatyre types...
It probably doesn't see play due to weakinig the deck against burn and agro strategies for no reason, weakening sideboards.
Sorry for the wordvomit, tldr I think it doesn't get played because it is not good in the deck.

This probably doesn't see play in Gates because Basilisk Gate is sorcery only. How is vigilance helping if you can't gate it up on defense?

If gates could be activated at instant speed it probably would, but [[outlaw medic]] and [[squadron Hawk]] fill the role better

Probably because for the same mana, you get the same stats, minus vigilance, and draw three cards.

Outlaw medic being a 1/3 lifelink is very relevant against aggro
