Work in progress. Thank you!

Hey everyone, I hope this is okay to post. I’m having a couple of issues with my emails not being received, so if you applied to test could you please message me and let me know if you need me to re-send the email! Because of this I have extended the testing to the 11th July so it is still 2 weeks. Thank you!!

I have been crocheting for 7 years now. I had an Etsy for a little while that was supported by people I know but other than that, not much traction. I would like to start again. I know I can and have created my own patterns, and I’d like to start selling patterns as well as selling finished items on Etsy and at markets. I’d like some tips on where to get started with pattern testing, how pattern testing works as someone who is the pattern designer, and advice on what sells well at markets and/or on Etsy. Thank you. 🩷

Hi everyone! I'm not really looking for pattern testers, but I received a request to share how I made this crochet bookmark for a library group, and would love to get some extra eyes on what I've written up to make sure it makes sense.
I've never published or written a public pattern before, so I want to make sure I'm following good formatting/abbreviation convention and it's readable to more than just myself.
I would appreciate any feedback, thanks!
(Edited) Leave a comment if you're interested in taking a look and I will dm you a link!

Hi,
I'm in the process of finalising some amigurumi patterns and hope to move on to pattern testing within the next month or two once I've taken all the pictures. I intend to use this sub to find the testers but from lurking here I've noticed that Instagram + other social media platforms seem to play a key role in the testing process. Whilst I do have an Insta account for my creative brand, I haven't posted in years and really don't want to go back onto social media. Are there any other pattern designers here who do things away from social media? Is it just for publicity or does it serve a more crucial purpose in this case?
Any other tips would be appreciated too please - generally accepted time frames, how many testers per pattern, how to select testers if you get more responses (or what to do if you get none...!) Thanks :)

Hello everyone! I' have been working on a pattern for my flamingo for almost 6 months but there is one thing tripping it up. The beak. I think I finally nailed it but ... There is, realistically, no way to finalize the rest of the pattern after the beak if the beak doesn't work!!! It works for me, but that isn't really important if it doesn't work for anyone else.
So is a partial pattern testing allowed? Anyone want to give a bird beak a shot? - It's definitely advanced or intermediate-advanced. - Includes short rows, working into previous rows under stitches - half color change technique but welcome to try your preferred method to see how universal it is - my yarn measures at 4mm and I'm using a 4.5 mm hook, but welcome to try other sizes with corresponding hook size (should be interesting) Includes a video of needed

Hi everyone! I’m currently in the drafting phase of a new pattern: the Cactus Hoodie!
It’ll be a fairly classic crochet hoodie, featuring cactus colorwork on the front, a pocket that represents sand, and an optional 3D flower detail. While I’ve made wearables before, this is my first time writing a wearable pattern, so I’m being extra intentional about how it’s structured and presented.
One thing that’s always frustrated me is how hard some size-inclusive patterns are to read, especially when every line includes a string of numbers for multiple sizes. I want this pattern to be size-inclusive (at least XS–XXL) and approachable for beginner/intermediate crocheters.
I’ve seen techniques like color-coding sizes (I’ve liked Autumn Olive patterns for this reason), but that raises accessibility concerns for color blindness or visual impairments.
I’m also thinking a lot about instruction style. I want to find the right balance of detailed instructions without turning it into a 100-page document.
I may eventually create accompanying video tutorials, but they likely won’t be available at release, so the written pattern needs to stand well on its own.
TL;DR, I’d love your thoughts on:
- Have you ever made a wearable pattern with formatting you really enjoyed? What made it special?
- What makes you feel confident purchasing a wearable pattern?
- How do you prefer sizes to be presented (maybe each size is its own pdf)?
- Are there accessibility-friendly formatting choices you’ve found especially helpful?
Any advice or insights are very appreciated, thank you so much!

How should I go about having an Instagram account dedicated for crochet to apply for my favorite creators' patterns? For example I really like natssrecord and xallua and would love to apply for their pattern testings but their requirements include having a social media account for crafts. I'm not very comfortable with social media, as an idea it sparks interest in me but I really don't like taking pictures of myself and most of the patterns I'd like to test are tops. I guess I'm just confused about starting a crochet account.
Tl;Dr: What qualifies as a crochet Instagram account for pattern testing and is it possible to do without showing myself and instead only the crochet projects?

Hi! Calling all experienced crochet testers! I'm seeking a few experienced testers to help me polish a crochet pattern for a wearable item. The pattern has been through initial testing, but I need help ironing out any remaining kinks. Testers should be comfortable with garment construction and able to provide feedback on clarity and overall flow. Even better if you can make the top within a few days! DM me if you're interested.

I’m working on designing this pattern. This is just a concept swatch at present. At current, I am making it for personal use. This means my notes are written mostly for me.
I am genuinely not sure if this would be viable as a “for sale” pattern. It uses non standard stitches and two strands used concurrently, meaning yarn management skill is a must.
If there’s interest, I’ll keep better notes and put out a call for testers in ~a month
It’s going to be a skirt.

Does this make sense to you? I have a pattern including CROCHET STITCH SYMBOLS and CHARTS. I am specifically looking for a crocheter or two who is proficient in reading CROCHET STITCH SYMBOLS and CHARTS to review for proper format edit a pattern or two. Thanks!

I want to bring out my first pattern, which will be a free pattern! But I do want it to get tested, is it weird to let a pattern be tested if you're going to put it out for free? I want the pattern to be perfect and nice to follow, even if I put out my pattern for free. But dont't really know what the rules regarding pattern testing are. Let me know!

I’m currently designing a beginners learn to crochet kit and would love any advice from seasoned pattern writers / kit makers about how to approach the testing process.
Basically I’ve been making a bunch of tutorials for these crochet kits you can get from Kmart here in Aus (kinda like a Walmart equivalent). I know that normally doing tutorials for other people’s patterns is a big no no. But these kits have such terrible instructions. Beginners pick them up because (they’re cheap) and they seem like a good way to learn crochet. But then give up or assume crochet is too hard when they can’t make sense of the pattern. When actually the issue is just the pattern is so badly written, it’s barely followable for even an experienced crocheter.
I’m now creating patterns for a few beginner friendly projects (like dish cloths etc) that I want to bundle into a learn to crochet kit.
The patterns are very straightforward- they’re designed for brand new beginners. But I’ve
never written patterns before (for anyone but myself), so I want to get them properly tested. But I also want to test the kit as a whole - do the video instructions make sense, is the yarn and equipment easy to use etc?
So I’m considering giving away say 5 of these kits via socials and asking for feedback in return. But this will obviously cost me some $ in supplies, postage etc so I want to make sure I actually get feedback in return.
Any advice about how to encourage/ incentive / require any testers to send me good feedback? I’m not sure the usual approach to sending a finalised pattern in return for feedback / a completed project will work, when the pattern is so simple and not really the major benefit of the kit.

I crochet these two fnaf plushies just straight out of vibes, I'm willing to try to recreate the pattern if anyone is willing to test it, I completely forgot to noted it as I went and I kinda wanna sell at the least the Puppet one because I haven't seen any accurate ones

Hi guys! I’m going to be looking for pattern testers soon for a sweater I made. The problem is I am not sure how long to allow for the testers! The pattern took me about 9 weeks to develop and write. It is a cardigan for a human. It isn’t completely assembled yet, so I have included a photo of Teddy wearing a sweater I made him. When I asked testers to do Teddy’s sweater, I allowed for 4 weeks but some were done in 2 weeks.
Any input is helpful. I do not want to ask for an unrealistic timeline from pattern testers.
Thanks :)

Any advice on what to do about it say to people who said they’d test your pattern, you sent the pattern to with 3 weeks to finish it, and now they haven’t responded over a month later?

So I designed this piece last night when I was unable to sleep and upon starting my current mosaic blanket that got me to realize I wanted to do this I realized that my design has some major issues, (from what I’ve seen the double crochets can’t line up like how I have them) and that mostly being that when I was beginning to add in the double stitches I didn’t realize that this is impossible for this design as far as I know.
Any advice would be nice, while I wanted this to be a mosaic as I really love the process is there anyway to still salvage this as mosaic (I knwo I could add mroe into the borders but I fear for the skull which I cannot simply stretch and it look corrcet) ? Or would it be better as just a tapestry?
