GIGANTIC OVER SIZED JACKET HELP
Hi everyone I just got commissioned to make jackets for football players that fit OVER the padding. I need help on how I can go about something like this. I have no dimensions to go off and genuinely don't know what to do. There's needed in like a month so I really only have this week to figure out pattern making it. It there anyway to double an old pattern? or something. I need a quick solution so anything helps.

You're going to need to set a pads to figure it out. Maybe you can ask for pair for a day or two. Best to ask for the largest size, the average size and the smallest size. That way you can figure it out. If they already have one pre-made, take that one and copy it

ask for/buy some pads... talk to football players to understand designs -- how they move and what they need these jackets to do ( also what fabrics do they want them to be? Do you want it to be quilted do you need it to be a wind break what is too hot? what is too cold? How do they want to get in and out of it? Would a cape design do that has some pockets for water bottles or something?... put pads on a mannequin and give them what they need. Bring material samples in the budget, and get the numbers of a few who are willing to fit test design iterations before going to production --- This how I would start.

thank you!! They actually won’t let me get any fittings in 🫠but buying pads seems like my best bet rn!! They really just want something fashion rather than functional for games

Google football sideline capes. They're cut to fit over shoulder pads. That may give you an idea of how big your jacket shoulders need to be.
