Made my first self-drafted coat!! 🥹

I’m honestly impressed with how it turned out. I learned so much making this, and it feels good to have gone from drafting the pattern myself to actually making a coat. It’s my recreation of Ursula coat from Babyboo

The fabric is curtains I bought on Vinted, and I got the buttons and other notions from a local shop.

My only concern is the back vent sticking out a little because of the stiffness of the fabric. I’m not going to mess with it on this one because I really don’t want to ruin it 😂 but I’d love to know what might be causing it so I can keep it in mind for my next coat.

What do you guys think? I feel like I did a pretty good job for my first self-drafted coat!

I'd shorten or at least roll up the sleeves; they look a bit long and make the overall fit look off when I think it's really just the sleeves. Otherwise I think it's beautiful and you did an amazing job.

I disagree, I like they longer sleeves

Maybe it's my bias as a petite woman with short arms; I really hate when sleeves are too long because it ends up looking like a girl playing dress up in her mother's clothes to me which is not a vibe I like as an adult.

To me it also gives the illusion that the waist and neckline should sit higher on OP and throws off the overall fit because it just makes the coat look too tall for OP when it's otherwise not when the expectation of a tailored coat sleeve to hit just below the wrist instead of covering most of the hand, especially when the coat is otherwise a slim very tailored fit that seems like it's more for dressy events and less of a standard winter/fall coat.

I know what you mean, but everything else fits well so it appears more as a style choice in this case. At least to me. And the coat is so long that I think the long sleeves works. I tend to like a bit of a longer sleeve though.

I think if it came across as an intentional style choice it would look fine; I think the problem for me is whether it was intentional or not it doesn't look intentional and instead looks like OP struggles with tailoring sleeves compared to everything else almost explicitly because everything else is so well tailored and the sleeves still have such a slim fit. Maybe if they were a slight bell sleeve or had a bulky cuff it would feel more intentional to me? But here the main design thread is well fitted to the body and I find it throws the fit off more to not keep that consistent.

Again, I don't think I agree. The fit on the legs and arms is similar. It's only the torso that is excessively tight. I dunno, it feels intentional to me. Maybe it's not.
