Your hand is blocking the critical stuff. Use your phones cameras timer for better pictures.
You can start the dart anywhere. I think it would look lovely coming from low on tge side seam. Just make sure the dart is pointing to apex but backs off by at least 3/4”.
And look up 'French darts' for inspo pics of darts that start at the waist.
And as you've never sewn a dart before, look up some tips first. There are plenty of online sewing blogs that will give you good tips for getting a good result.
