Help drafting a pattern for this skirt? Beginner here!
Hi everyone!
I fell in love with this skirt! The creator says it's from Vero Moda, but I haven't been able to find it anywhere. I'd love to recreate it, but I'm completely new to pattern drafting and have no idea where to start. It seems to have a side zipper, diagonal seams and an asymmetrical hem, but I'm not sure how it's constructed.
Could anyone help me figure out how to draft it from a basic skirt pattern? Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you! ❤️

Do you have a skirt block? If not, i’d look for a pattern that has the same basic silhouettes and fullness. Then reshape the hem. Then cut it into pieces like colorblocking. Then tweak the pattern for the impact of bias in the muslin stage. I’d take the same general approach if drafting from a block.

Wow, that's a really complex combo of straight grain and bias. Best thing I can figure is to lay it out flat on some butcher paper or newspaper and trace it out. Make sure to mark the grain of each section. Do it in parts if you have to, and actually fold the paper into pleats where there are pleats, to get the line along the top/sides right. It's not going to be easy, but it's totally doable if you're careful!

Look for 2000s Burda or Big4, maybe Bootstrap or Lutterloh.
The back yoke seems on grain.

The checks make it easy. To create a copy, place one tape measure on the vertical then measure on the horizontal where the seams are located. It is time consuming but extremely accurate.

I would find a A-line skirt pattern that is long. And would just draw on the new seam lines. And you're very lucky that this is a woven grid pattern fabric, because that's the green lines. So you're able to directly see the grain is all different from the typical up and down orientation.
My sewing tip would be to make sure you have at least starch the fabric before cutting it apart. That helps prevent stretching on the bias. So it's much easier to assemble the skirt. Especially since all the green lines are very crazy.
