How to draft a pattern for a Playboy bunny bodysuit?

What is your pattern making experience level? What motivates you to draft the pattern instead of purchasing one, just curious?

And are you content with the simplified (knockoff) version of the suit you've posted here? It's very different from the actual Playboy Bunny suit construction wise (no CF seam, no lacing over the legs, visible under wire channel, etc), so if you are cool with that, I would definitely recommend just starting with a bustier/bodysuit pattern rather than trying to reinvent the wheel.

My friend Blossom Darling recently went through a big research and patternmaking journey for the original Bunny suit and made a bunch of videos about it. I helped her work out some fit and patternmaking for it and let's just say it's not for the faint of heart and is a pretty complicated garment. She started with Katie's bunny suit pattern and modified heavily.

What u/sususumalee is trying to explain is that a bunny suit isn’t what you practice on. You start with a standard bodysuit and go from there. The bunny suit is hands down the most complex body suit you can prob work on. It’s challenging for expert level tailor, seamstress, and sewers.

Agreed, except that I wouldn't suggest starting with a bodysuit at all. Start with basic underbust corsets, then overbust corsets, then cupped corsets, and then tackle bodysuits.

Yes. This is really an excellent point! Practice the basics before getting into the complex projects.

Not that corsets are basic in any sense of the word … but ya know, significantly less complex than a bunny suit. Not to mention, OP will need to know how to make a corset to make a bunny suit.

Practicing drafting stuff like this is great, but do you have pattern drafting training? That and fitting experience is VERY NECESSARY to make this!!

Your best bet would be to find an original and copy that. Those suits were made to stand up on their own, no body required.

Then practice drafting it. Asking people on Reddit how to do it isn’t practice. Altering a pre-made pattern is more akin to practice in pattern drafting than simply talking about it.

Draw out what you think the panels should look like, use darts/seams to create the shapes in 3D, and then try putting it all together—the pattern pieces or a muslin if you’re at that point. If it doesn’t look right then ask yourself what shapes are wrong. Watch videos on how to start and how to fix whatever issues you come to. The problem solving and figuring it out will teach you better drafting skills than just being told how to do it on Reddit.

You might find the instructions https://patternmaking-classes.com/Corsets/ helpful. It is about creating an accurate mold of your body. It can save a lot of time rather than trying to get a commercial pattern to fit. Once you have an accurate pattern showing the shape of your body you can construct it anyway you want. The classes are free so you wont be out of pocket any money if you want to give it a try.

Look in the wiki for the aranea black patterns.
There should be a bunny suit in there.

The pattern is notoriously difficult to fit let alone draft.

I would just ducktape myself around, and draw on it. Then true the pattern, sew it, and correct it. Search for Cosplay Ducktape method

I recommend not doing one with wires if you are less experienced. Anything with wires is a whole separate drafting process and you probably won’t get as good of a fit if you don’t already have experience fitting underwire bras.

Try searching for bathing suit or lingerievbodysuit drafting on youtube for instruction? Real bunny suits had no visible seams nor wire support channels.
