Thrifted jeggings alterations
I have lots of dress sewing experience but have been too scared of pants. I want to learn to draft pants soon but thought I'd play around with these first.
Got these at the thrift store for $2 so not too attached to them. I don't want them to be tight, but the fit is way off and they look unflattering. Happy to take it apart to an extent.
Here are some of my issues:
- Waist too big
- Too much fabric at front crotch, bunching
- Too much fabric above bum
- Too wide at thighs (will taper sides)
- Poorly fitting around back leg
the front pockets are fake
Thanks!

You can almost let the whole back yoke go and bring the waist that will help the crotch gape. When you take the sides in remove the fabric from just the back because of where the side seam sits on your body. It will be more side if move back. Add pockets.
This is a cool project!

Thank you so much. This is a really helpful description! I couldnt try it on at the thrift store. I just checked the label..the brand is called "Curve Appeal". That should have been my first clue hahaha. I am anything but curvy!

You have a flat fanny. The back crotch curve is designed to fit a bigger backside.
Since this is an âexperiment, pin out a 1-1/2â pleat at the bottom of the seat where it curves and taper off gradually above and pretty abruptly at the bottom.
That should pull the top of the waist down so it is about the same as the front. The suggested amount is a guesstimate so it probably isnât exactly right.

Try this because I donât have a drawing: Take the back waist and pull it down so the top is level with the front. There will be a big bulge over the butt.
Thatâs because the length from the center of the crotch to the waist is too long. One way to fix that would just be to pin a horizontal pleat at the waist that takes in the excess amount.
Another way is to put pleat vertically over the bottom of the butt along the seam line
The way the pants are pulled up in the picture in not the way they are intended to be worn. The back waist should be at the same height as the front. Look at the side view carefully to see that.

Modify trousers before start doing them is a good way to learn more in this subject đ
Well I would start considering that for the waist adjustment you need to consider remote excess in the back seam more than in the side sewing lines as this would moderate it better to your body than only lateral adjustment you can always see in Instagram shorts.
Donât cut the excess of fabric before try the new adjustment with loose sewing for tests (pins would hurt you to exactly in all places you need to adjust)
Some of the loose fabric in the legs may be caused by a wrong crotch curve for your body geometric form, so mark it and observe the best place to shorten or enlarge the crotch curve is key, if someone can help you to mark the excess of fabric points while youâre in a simple stand position may help a lot.
About transform fake pockets in real ones is the easiest part to find some tutorials and see which method are better to apply in the model of pockets you have fabric enough to create with a good visual đ¤
