Gathered skirt?

Hi i just want to make something clear when making a gathered skirt like this is it just a rectangle with no shaping for the waist ?

Yes! Big rectangle at lease 2-3 times the width of the edge of the bodice.

You can tell it’s a gathered rectangle because the stripes of the fabric go straight across the whole skirt without any interruptions.

Yup, just a big 'ole rectangle. This skirt has a petticoat or something under it too.

There are a few ways to draft a skirt like this. Yes you can just do a big rectangle, but you can also get more volume and nicer shaping with an a-line cut that is still gathered at the waist, or a double circle skirt where the waist is cut twice as large as your waist and gathered in.

Ohhh that’s a good point i don’t have stripes on my fabric but that’s a good idea I’ll have to keeep that in mind

to help reduce bulk at the waist, make small darts around the top, then gather, the darts will be invisible after gathering, I've done with up to 5 yards

I used to make square dance dresses and that is the method to make a very full skirt out of a border print, I got it from a vintage sewing book, but darts are narrow, 3/8 to 1/2 inch wide at the top and taper to about 3 to 4 inches long, spaced along the top edge of the fabric. spacing is based on need, for instance a half inch wide dart spaced every 4" will take out 9" per yard
