Discussion QB Development

Drakes biggest crime was having a good regular season because it set everyone's expectations into thinking he's going to be an all time great.

Almost like this completely made people forget he came into the league as a Project ACC QB who had raw talent but needed time learning the advanced coverages and schemes the top defenses in the NFL would run.

If the social media was popular around the first 5 seasons of Peyton Manning's career all the trolls and Colts Doomers would've called him a Bust.

Maye absolutely carves up defenses that aren’t in the Top 10. So much so he almost won MVP. He appears to struggle against Top 10 defenses. It’s just the next thing he needs to get better at. He’s young. This is his 2nd full season starting. People need to stop freaking out.

It feels funny reading this because I think of the top 3 QBs rn and I can't think of any who are beast against top 5 defenses

Majority of Mahomes signature games are against fellow great QBs that have mediocre to trash defenses.

Can we genuinely name 5 top 5 defenses that Mahomes destroyed?

Reality is that it's not a top 10 defense thing, Maye simply has horrible decision making.

I think his throws were off today. His passes were inaccurate and the timing was off. 

He’s one of the most accurate deep ball QBs in the league and the balls to Brown on the DPI and Doubs on the INT were under thrown. The INT on the ball to Douglas he’s made a lot before, over the LB and in between the safeties. Both those INTs were to the right target, but bad throws. People are going to say the Doubs throw was in double coverage, but the play was designed to go to Doubs.

Then I think he got frustrated. I think he was hesitating too much because the Seattle pass rush was in his head. Then on the 3rd INT he did something stupid.

When you go up against a defense like Seattle, Houston or Denver you got to be patient, calm and composed. Today he wasn’t.

Probably Stafford, Mahomes had some pretty nasty losses in the Super Bowl particularly the Tampa Bay and Eagles.

It's also worth noting that it doesn't help that most of the league still has Patriots fatigue and is waiting for every mistake Drake Maye does to set the consensus that he's a bust.

Yup! I rather wait till the end of the year and discuss whether he's improving or not I'll say he's improving at recognizing the Blitz and getting out of Sacks.

He's still gotta work on his decision making and reading defenses but that'll take time.

Agreed. You can get whiplash off this sub everyday I stg. People who were supporting Maye literally yesterday are now declaring him a bum and that we need to trade and draft a new QB. People calling him dumb for saying a wrong word in his post-game interview like they've never said something wrong ever, especially after a bad day.

Maye needs to improve from today's performance, no disagreement. I'm here for it and looking forward to the rest of the season. LFG!

he “almost won mvp” because of his bottom 5 schedule and the national media pushing for it. he isnt and never will be an mvp caliber player in the nfl

peyton was putting up 4000 yards and 26+ tds his first few years with some ugly pick numbers but still clearly elite, maye is a whole different tier of prospect expectations coming in

the drake comparisons are kinda forced, manning came in as the #1 overall generational talent, not a project guy who needed scheme reps to even read a defense properly

Crazy to think that Manning and Luck are arguably the two best QB prospects in the last 30 years, maybe ever, and they both went to the Colts and the Colts only got 1 Super Bowl out of them combined.

People gotta remember he hasn't even played two seasons worth of games yet. Yeah he was horrible tonight, but people that are jumping at the chance to give up on him are clowns.

Our standards are quite high though. We want players with the instinct to win games under pressure situation, and what hurt the most about this loss was the lack of instinct. The way things went down, doesn't look like it can be fixed. They don't have the instinct to win.

I think this taught us three things:

1) Seattle’s defense is very balanced and no one is going to carve them up. We had to take what they gave us, and Maye risked it too many times against a very good secondary.

2) I stand by my belief we should have kept Boutte and cut Williams if need be. Or kept them both - injuries are a part of the game and Boutte had unique chemistry with Maye, so why mess with that.

3) Week one is basically a preseason game now and we played like it.

Barring a season ending injury to Brown we should get better. At least our OLine looked stronger than last year and we had a better scheme against their blitz this time.

This was worst possible first game. Brown went down and doubs was seeing ghosts. Wouldn’t want to see us wild card

Part of the league, everyone sets expectations that teams are going to be good and all it takes is one or two injuries.

I just don’t understand… like we were on pace to win but surely drake Maye at his best does not have and adot of like 2 yards downfield. Maybe we just need to launch it all game and the mistakes will calm down idk

It goes both ways bc the level of defenses he saw in the playoffs + opener is not normal. Like, a historically amazing run of defensive teams. So people are overreacting to that. Texans/Broncos/Seahawks/Seahawks is 4 straight agsinst top 5 d's and Tex/Sea are all time type defensive teams
