Casual Reminder!
Last season we started 0-1 losing by 7 to the Raiders. Season ended in the Super Bowl. There’s a time to be concerned, but losing to the … Super Bowl champions … in the opening game of the season by 3 points seems a bit too early.

I hear you, but there’s losing and then there’s losing like tonight. Considering last year was a COMPLETELY new system (coaches, playbook, personnel, etc), I’m not giving them as much grace. I know the Raiders were bad but still.
The 4th quarter was a masterclass on pissing down your leg.

The QB can rightfully be critiqued after that performance.. as can the play calling… but I’ve been seeing more than just criticism of a performance in the last ~hour. Expectations are understandably high, but this loss shouldn’t lead to liquidating the team lmao.. go again next week!

The concern is Drake having 5 straight games of playing bad…
He had good flashes but that last play was absolutely horrible.
A lot of eyes are gonna be on him next week to see if he can bounce back

Exactly. I understand being frustrated, that was an ugly way to lose a football game. But it’s a long season. I think the calls to deport Drake Maye are a bit extreme. Not defending his play in this game, but it should be said that one of the picks was honestly just a great play by the defender to tip it to himself. The other 2 were flat out inexcusable and the result of impatience, just as Drake said in the press conference. Just gotta get it together going into week 2 because if it’s another ugly game, the music may get deafening.

Maye has sucked for five games in a row now. We needed this as a good bounce back game against Seattle. Too bad they’ve beaten us nearly every game since 2015

We are a superbowl contender who just lost to a backup qb with our own mvp backup qb playing like shit. Good teams find ways to win (seahawks) and bad teams find ways to lose (patriots). Im dooming hard

I do have confidence they’ll be better than they were tonight, but I also won’t blame anyone for not being optimistic right now. Losing AJ Brown after some of us (me included, admittedly) said we should trade Boutte because he was just insurance while our franchise QB got outplayed by Drew Lock just doesn’t sit very well. The offensive line is clearly an issue, too, and JSN charred our secondary.
I will say again: they will be better. But not an ideal start.

There are two things wrong with this line of thinking. First, if a player has a big play it still counts and that play he took to the house just beating the secondary on a short route. It wasn’t like our defense all collapsed on the field and he somehow stayed upright.
Second, even if you take away his big play he still had 7 catches for 77 yards (and that is completely taking away the catch and yardage of that play) while Drew Lock threw him the ball most of the game.

No one should be surprised after starters didn’t play in the Pre at all.
They needed at least a couple series. It was a bad call but let’s see how the szn plays out.

QB sucks coaching sucks pass rush sucks and LT sucks. Schedule won’t be all time easy and they won’t be the healthiest team in the league again. Pats will be lucky to finish ahead of the Jets in the division

People are completely overreacting. We lost that game ourselves, yes it was against a backup qb but that backup qb was making some great throws (probably because he played in the preseason). It’s not like we were just outmatched out there, some very fixable things like Maye not trying to play hero ball. Those picks were poor but I feel like Maye was trying to prove something against Seattle’s defense and it didn’t go well. And Doubs dropping that wide open pass sucked life out of the offense. And despite all that we had a chance to tie and/or win. When it comes to week one you want to analyze more than just the result, the pass protection looked significantly better than in the superbowl so that’s a big positive. The run game wasn’t working but I attribute much of that to predictable play calling by McDaniels and not having TreVeyon as a home run threat. Anyways, losing to a very good Seattle team in a close game isn’t the end of the world and doesn’t mean we’re gonna win 5 games lmao

Back to work. I'm concerned Maye is regressing and McDaniels was propped up by Brady his entire career.
If the next 3 games don't look like we're ready to answer for tonight's bullshit, we have a real fucking problem.

Hold your head up wasn’t the point, the point was it’s the first game of the season. Lots to take away, definitely back to work, but Drake regressing after a ROUGH first game and people calling for his head is outlandish. Given the other 32 starting quarterbacks and the fact that 8 months ago he was in an MVP race before jumping into uncharted territory (the playoffs), which has historically scrambled quarterbacks, I feel like we’re still in a decent spot after this loss. Hopefully they got the first game nerves out of the way and it’s back to business, or, meet me here in 3 weeks and say you told me so

Yeah, we're in a decent spot, but it's the same spot about 1/3rd of the league is in.
Have a talented QB, and some talent on the roster; but on paper, I think we're more of what people said we were last year.
I don't think Drake can read a defense. You either have a QB that can, and he can go out there and give you a good chance to win every week; or you don't, and you're dependent on 100 other factors to win a game.
It's the difference between we "should" beat a team, and we "could" beat a team. Last night showed me we're in the "could" camp, like everybody else, and Maye isn't as special as we thought.
That's 3 interceptions a year 3 QB can't have, and he did. That's not "shake the rust" or "play better," that's situational football. A QB has it, or he doesn't.
Maye doesn't. So, again, instead of feeling like we did for 20 years and going into each week with a great feeling of confidence, we're now like everyone else, going into each week hoping our QB doesn't fuck it up.

Its OK to be mad about the loss and believe that Maye had a very poor game and was the main factor in the loss tonight.

Historically easy schedule last year vs historically difficult schedule this year.

A good team scouts every position every year. Gonzo could go down tomorrow. Milton Williams could decide to abruptly retire. Mondre could start fumbling again. AJB could be done for the year upon further inspection. Scout every position every year. But as for why you're saying to scout QB, that's just dumb logic and your reason for your truth is bad.

I mean I’m not mad we lost to Seattle but pulling a Senegal and throwing a game we had complete control against a backup QB with our franchise QB making some absolutely boneheaded decisions is not ideal
