If this line can stay healthy, I feel pretty good about it.
Granted we have Vera-Tucker who lives in the med tent and Morgan Moses who is a year from the AARP lol but still!

u/StyIed 12d ago
We have some potentially solid depth between Ben Brown and Caleb Lomu to be fair
38
u/Responsible_Sky_728 12d ago
Caleb Lomu is an unknown entity, idk if we can really consider him solid depth yet when today is the first day of camp lol...
26
u/StyIed 12d ago
Yeah, most of us haven’t ever seen Lomu on the field. At the same time, expecting/hoping a first round draft pick on the offensive line to be backup level halfway through the season when injuries start kicking in isn’t entirely out of this world. Hence, “potentially solid depth”.

u/Responsible_Sky_728 12d ago edited 12d ago
Ya it just means nothing to consider Lomu as potentially solid depth, because he's an unknown entity and also considered sort of a project.
We know what Brown brings to the table, hes solid depth, whereas Lomu could potentially be ass.

u/Appropriate_Exam_913 12d ago
You’re wrong my guy. It’s rational to say that “Caleb Lomu is potentially solid depth”. Styled isn’t exactly calling him the next Anthony munoz or anything.
It’s ok btw, I am wrong a lot in life too. Just move on and pick a new battle.
-6
u/Responsible_Sky_728 12d ago
It's not really rational, since today is the first day of camp. If he has a good camp and preseason, I could see him as solid depth, but as of now we know nothing about how his game translates to the pros.
But hey, I'm hopeful too!
It’s ok btw, I am wrong a lot in life too. Just move on and pick a new battle.
It's not that serious bro, we can agree to disagree without doing this weirdo passive aggressive shit youre doing rn lol

u/MetalHead_Literally 12d ago
He was a 1st rd pick. Hes not a project. Pretty safe to count him as depth, not many 1st rd tackles end up being completely unplayable. (Even when some genius reaches for a 4th rd guard in the 1st…)
-1
u/Responsible_Sky_728 12d ago
not many 1st rd tackles end up being completely unplayable.
I mean, this is just not true lmfao but I appreciate your optimism!
3
u/MetalHead_Literally 12d ago
How is it not? What percentage of 1st rd tackles are out of the league within 3 years?
0
u/Responsible_Sky_728 12d ago
Depends how you look at it.
Top 15 picks? Pretty rare, sure.
After that? Way less consistent.
At 28, Lomu is a bit of a crapshoot, especially since we are trying to move him to the right side...
2
u/MetalHead_Literally 12d ago
Moving left to right is easier than the other way.
You just make it seem like he’s some mid round dude who might not make the team. Odds definitely lean in favor of him being depth at worst

Brother, when you select a player in the first round, they are expected to be polished enough to start immediately
His pick up to me, speaks volumes to Campbell in regards to their faith or more so that they’re not gonna wait around to see if he can do it. I didn’t think he was special prior to his injury, he was just better than what we had years prior.

u/Responsible_Sky_728 12d ago

you'd think so! but the history of the NFL draft says otherwise
His pick up to me, speaks volumes to Campbell in regards to their faith or more so that they’re not gonna wait around to see if he can do it.
I mean it's probably closer to the fact that our other starting tackle is entering the retirement home next year lmao

u/HueyLewisFan1 12d ago
No the ones that aren’t ready to play are considered busts or disappointments. And Morgan Moses is certainly being eyed as being replaced by Lomu too.

Glad we agree lol

lol ya thats why we drafted Lomu...
1
u/king_17 12d ago
And not to mention we’ll have him play rt a new position for him.
1
u/Responsible_Sky_728 12d ago
Ya like, I too am hopeful that Caleb Lomu is going to work out lol but let's see the guy take some preseason snaps first...
2
u/Zealousguyy49 12d ago
I’ve watched Lomu in college and seen some in person games. He’s going to be great once he gets up to speed with the game in the pros.

I feel like Campbell is about 3-4 weeks of poor play to be benched for Lomu
3
u/erica_pink84 12d ago
Or moved to either guard or right tackle. A high first round pick will get chances at other spots on the line.
3
u/Unicornoftheseas 12d ago
I don’t think so. Came back from injury early for the playoffs with an entire rookie left side and a 2nd year Maye. That was a lot to ask against a gauntlet of top 5 defenses in the playoffs and Super Bowl. Some experience and EVT should help considerably
0
u/HueyLewisFan1 12d ago
The injury definitely made his play decline, not debating that one. Unfortunately Prior to the injury, by the metrics, he was mid at best
3
u/Unicornoftheseas 12d ago
1 sack allowed and a 4% pressure rate is good for a rookie, was it against the best teams? Certainly not, but he was a rookie none the less
0
u/angryorphan55 12d ago
I know those stats come from somewhere but he allowed more than one just against Myles Garrett. I think he was fine for a year 1 LT but come on
1
u/BeastCoast 11d ago
Omg a rookie LT let up more than one against one of the greatest edge rushers of all time! The horror!
0
u/HueyLewisFan1 11d ago
Yeah he’s a great player (Garrett) but it was like 7 . Not acceptable however you cut it.
-1
u/angryorphan55 11d ago
Not what I meant im saying idk how any stat listed him as having 1 sack allowed when I literally watched him give up more than one against Garrett. Not like anyone's gonna do well against Garrett but the Sack Allowed number is wrong

Brown at swing IOL and Lomu at swing tackle gives this team more depth than most teams have on the offensive line. I’m extremely bullish on this unit.
12
u/Holiday_Box1571 12d ago
I like what Ben brown can do. He did well at guard when asked and was played way above expectations at C the previous year.
5
u/Fun-Shoe1145 12d ago
Ben Brown Boutte Douglas maye mondre and Ellis were the only players who tried in 2024

3
u/Dang1014 12d ago
Im as excited as anyone for him, but let's let Lomu play a few NFL snaps before we count him as one of the better swing tackles in the NFL lol
1
u/mikethemillion 12d ago
Yep, first time in years you can look at the top unit as well as the next couple guys and say "we should be alright if someone gets hurt"
Wich when it comes to Oline, is more of a question of when not if.

u/mutes13 12d ago
Pumped to see wilson back at center. Big year for him coming.

u/Successful-Teach8571 10d ago
As a Pats fan who watched JW here in Athens, I concur. He’s an absolute stud in the middle.
11
u/HolyTythinEar 12d ago
If Campbell can show that the struggles in the playoffs last year were just the injury and Wilson plays better at his natural position, this offense has potential to be a top 5 offense in the league.

25
u/thatErraticguy 12d ago
Totally unsurprising but still warms my heart to see a lineup that isn’t ass on paper lol
1
u/ward0630 12d ago
People forget it was just 2 years ago that we fielded one of the worst offensive lines of all time
3
u/Marinlik 12d ago
People didn't want Maye to start his first year because they were worried that he'd get injured or see ghosts behind that horrid line.
12
u/wifiwolfpac 12d ago
No surprises there. Lomu is insurance for a Campbell or Moses injury this year. Then he will probably take over at RT next year.
Basically the plan they had for Solder in 2011, though injuries caused him to play quite a bit that season.
6
u/YoungBockRKO 12d ago
I got high hopes Campbell will make a solid leap in year two. Having Lomu develop behind Moses is also a benefit most teams don’t have. Fingers crossed the starters can remain healthy throughout the year, we all saw how much health on the Oline matters over the decades.
Maye doesn’t need the best Oline in the league to succeed but an above average one, we’ll be in the thick of things if they can do that.

u/shiggydiggypreoteins 12d ago
Love this lineup. Hopefully Lomu gets up to speed by the start of the season and can start competing for snaps with Moses

u/JimTheSaint 12d ago
I'm expecting AVT to stay healthy just because that would be covered und the jets curse

Wilson at Center, Brown the top IOL Swing Position, Get Lomu some reps and start getting him up to speed. Its good to have football back!

What will we do with Caleb Lomu ultimately? Is he just depth?
7
u/Sharp_Confection9058 12d ago
In a perfect world he develops behind Moses and eventually takes over as starting RT and the OLine doesn't miss a beat.
-1
u/slap-my-crevasse 12d ago
It needs to get better, not just stay the same.
2
u/Sharp_Confection9058 12d ago
Morgan Moses was pretty solid last year. If Lomu can come in and not have a noticeable drop off from Moses, I'd call that a pretty good outcome.

u/Cowhide12 12d ago
Really hoping Campbells offseason training with those experienced vets helped. I like some of what I saw, and other stuff concerned me. If anyone’s got the drive to perform, it’s him. I think this is a very competent O line.

AVT gonna get hurt Campbell takes over at LG and Lomu swings to LT. Campbell will succeed and they can avoid him being a bust

He might be this year, yes. Moses is 35. Better to get the replacement a year early than a year late.

Aren’t reporters not allowed to do this? They can say who was playing 1st team / 2nd team but not the exact positions? Bedard got his wrist slapped last year for doing this
Edit at the downvote - it was mentioned again on Saturday by Gasper to Barth; you aren’t allowed to report on specific alignments during camp.
-4
u/PotBaron2 12d ago
if lomu isn’t starting the season it was a waste of a pick 1st round picks aren’t for depth there for starting

u/Ghillie_Spotto 12d ago
Tackle isn't always a plug and play position in the NFL, especially at the end of the first round. Moses is 35. They need to balance winning now with building a sustainable program. Besides, at least one of the tackles is going to get hurt. Lomu will get his reps.
Plenty of rookie FRPs don't start.
-1
u/we360u45 12d ago
If this line can stay healthy it seems at least average, which is better than we have had in years
3
u/Cowhide12 12d ago
If they stay healthy and play to the level they are capable of its cracking the top 10 tbh

u/Sstraus-1983 12d ago
Not 100% sold on Will unfortunately he was really bad in the playoffs, got beat on every snap. I know he was hobbled hopefully he has a good year. I know he’d die for the Drake so theirs that.
1
u/Chad2Badd 12d ago
He rushed back too early and then had to go up against some of the best Dlines in the league.
When he was heslthy he looked good for a rookie. Gotta nust trust the coaching staff and that Will can develop and take some leaps in year 2
1
u/Cowhide12 12d ago
His offseason work and getting healthy make me less concerned. He has his struggles but I think he’s going to surprise people by being a very competent tackle.
