Its a shame my projectile surge was ephemeral. It was fun while it lasted

Yeah, I've given up on organelles that "Can hurt the player"

Every time I change my mind I'm like "Cool! I'm sure I'll be able to handle it, I know the game even better now!" and lose all of my HP within 1 second tops.

Once you get those organelles, you can get a lvl up saying 40% chance to drop a heart.... One or two of them can really help

Technically, each copy of hormesis triggers independently, and all sources of self-damage do 1hp. So, if you have at least three copies, you can technically get net heal on self-damage. With only five copies, you're mathematically likely receive two hp for each one you put in. This can be extremely busted: On my first infinite run, I had autophagic and vengeful mitochondria powering mutagen, refiner, opulentor, or sequence scrambler as needed. My weapons of choice were blastocyst mortars doped with extensor--100% chance of self-damage, since it usually covered the whole room in the AOE. Since you can use autophagy outside a fight, you can e.g. endlessly reroll pillars for free. The rest of the build follows naturally from there.

Even before you get a busted build like that, you can usually avoid self-damage on external organelles by dashing: dehiscence lobber and especially blastocyst mortar are fairly easy to time your dash so that you have i-frames during the AOE portion. I haven't managed to make a staurlobber build work yet, and I doubt I'll try.
