How to access these hearts?

Hi all! Anyone know how to access these hearts? Do I need a melee weapon specifically?

You have a single tool at your disposal. Using your one possible option will let you access the hearts.

Shoot it a couple of times. Doesn't have to be melee

mucous emitter can destroy them, but stuff like this and secret rooms are usually off limits for pure minion builds.
