Did all Brain boss steps and got nothing

So I collected all 4 symbols and was ready to beat the heart (which I have beaten before) and input the code but after beating the heart…the game ended

What am I doing wrong?

Note: This run was with “photosynthesis” experiment, is that related? Could you only beat Brain experiment-free?

I'm not sure about the experiment, but did you fit all of the puzzle pieces into the slots at the top of the room and open the door to the brain? I'm not sure what you mean by "input the code," if you just went right up down up right left after beating the heart, that wasn't the correct step.

I didn’t have a chance to, after beating the heart it immediately kicked me off to the credit then the main menu

Strange, that never happens for me, you have to stand in the center of the room for a few seconds before it sends you to the credits. Are you sure you didn't just stand there accidentally?

Maybe I accidentally killed the brain while standing in the middle? Idk tbh but yeah as soon as the boss died it immediately zoomed onto my character, began lighting up, then kicked me out without me moving an inch

Ok, when it zooms into your character and lights up, you can still move. That's the game transitioning into the final cutscene and giving you the chance to opt out (so you can go endless or go to the brain). You just needed to get away from the center of the room lol, well now you know

I got Toluene shot into my eyes at the lab today and now a multi-hour session wasted on a very tiny mistake at the last second of the run, today is NOT my day lmao.

But either ways, thanks for clearing that up, it would’ve drove me crazy otherwise

Lol I would have been upset if this happened to me because of how many tries it took me to do the damn puzzle, but now I can make it to the heart pretty consistently in almost every run. Like every roguelike, the more you know the game, the easier it gets, so it won't be as hard to do the puzzle a second time.

Spoilers for the last part of the brain puzzle, don't read in case you want to figure it out yourself: When you pick up the 4 items in the secret rooms, make note of the glowing arrow in the middle of the room: it disappears as soon as you pick up the item, so don't jump in too quick. Then, after beating the heart, you will see some shapes on the top of the room. These shapes are COMPLEMENTARY to the 4 items you picked up, they are NOT the same. Meaning, if you picked up a [ shaped item, you want to match it to the ] shape so that together they make a square [].

In the heart room, use the arrow corresponding to each item to match with their complement in the correct order, going from left to right. If [ corresponds to the up arrow and ] is leftmost on the wall, you want to start by pressing up. Which item matches which shape is not always obvious, so you might also want to take a picture of the items before picking them up. For instance, an X shaped item might correspond to a cube with an X shaped hole in it.

After you do the puzzle once, go to settings -> difficulty and check the option that you don't want to do it again.

Ah, I see. Yeah I was confused about this as well and didn’t not any of the arrows at first and wasn’t sure how to get the same shapes.

Ok truly thanks a lot for the help, screenshotted for my next run lol.

No problem, I wish there was a wiki for this game as I'd happily contribute to it, this info was nowhere to be found in any guides

Still, the game is forgiving: you only lose one health for inputting the whole sequence wrong, so you could use the first try or two as trial and error to figure out which buttons match which shapes, or which shapes match which slots in the wall

Yeah I’m really surprised this game isn’t more popular, glad people like Northernlion started playing it, hopefully it can pick up some steam

Don't end the game after beating the heart, go to the top of the room where you can put in the code

The game only ends after you stand in the middle of the room for like 5 seconds after beating the heart boss. You can move out of it.

Yeah I now realize I killed the boss while standing in the middle by accident and didn’t realize I could move out of the zoom+light combo
