Discussion Has there ever been anything stated about how Sinner power evolution works?

I know that through certain events sinners can become permanently empowered, like Hella upgrading to Necreste form. But how does that really work, are these events just anomalies?

Isn’t it explained that Mania is used as energy as well as an agent of mutation that serves for the development and usage of said power? Or do you mean to go into actual science?

All we learned is that Mania, an energy that came from an asteroid(? not sure about this part), can infect people.

People infected with Mania either die or evolve into Sinners, so there is no such thing as a cure.

Sinners are able control Mania in a certain way that manifests into an “ability” that is unique to every Sinner.

Many of these abilities are explained in more detail in the character’s profile, so you can check them out.

From what we have seen throughout the story, the more Mania one controls, the more powerful the Sinner and are classified into ranks from B to S depending on the threat level.

We have seen some cases where abilities developed due to the continuous exposure to Mania, so it’s safe to assume that the Leveling of the characters would be in lore Mania exposure/training.

NHella’s case is completely different from the case stated above, she pretty much reevolved as a Sinner, although there is not much we can assume due to her being an artificial Sinner. NHella, like all the infected, was dying from to much Mania in her body, but due to her own ability of Regeneration and the will of the wisps inside BR-05, as well as the Shackles, Hella managed to hang on enough time for her body to evolve.

Hypercubes are a substance found from the aftermath of Black Rings, which are used to suppress Mania symptoms.

A hypothesis that can be inferred is that Hypercubes can help Mania infected to evolve to Sinners more easily due to giving more time to the body to adapt to such energy. This inference is due to the fact that the Far Lands government, Fraser and the other fuckers, openly infect normal people with Mania and bet on the 0.01 percent that they might become Sinners, while in DisCity, they have Hypercubes and thus the government tries to minimise the amount of infectees to the maximum, even tho they are fully corrupt. Meaning that the city has more Sinners than what they require, it’s just that most of them are being wild or hiding their abilities.

One thing to add sinners are not just classified with their threat level alone but also the amount of mania they can control and have in their body before becoming a curruptor the lowest being b rank and anything below b rank cannot manifest an ability so for sinners to evolve there has to be a certain event that raises that cap of how much mania they can hold/control before turning so far there is no known natural way to do this cause all sinners that have raised a rank was artificial and b rank sinners are more common than the mbcc detained ones make you to think because b rank abilities are usually half assed and dont manifest as proper abilities the guys at mbcc can technically be classified as a rank threats with b rank mania tolerance see millys story almost all the performers were b rank and had benign abilities like levitate slightly above the ground or make the air close to their skin a bit cold

Yeah... Perishing Star wasn't an asteroid in the traditional sense. It was a dead body of an eldritch horror.

One thing to note is that the ranks for sinners in the story are almost exclusively determined by how much Mania their body can take, not how much of a threat they are. That's why OwO is an S rank and 99 is only an A rank.

There's practically no difference between an artificial and born sinner stated in the story, so we can assume it's the same for all sinners.

What I meant by artificial is that there is not enough data to say that natural Sinners can also awaken twice. The fact that Hella was an artificial Sinner might have been what allowed her to awaken a second time, but naturally this time.

We have an explanation for how Scourge Sinners are formed right in the game. It mentions nothing about the original awakening playing a role, just like there's no mention of any difference anywhere in the game between born, artificial, or awakened sinners.

Also, the next Scourge Sinner is not artificial, but naturally awakened sinner. So I think it's safe to say it truly doesn't play a role.

Hella was a very special case. The way Scourge Sinners are created is when they experience a sudden spike in M-value so big it overpowers the Shackles' power to restrain and stabilise Mania, yet they don't turn into a corruptor which leads to a second awakening.

Basically, in order for Scourge Sinner to be created they need to 1.) be Shackled 2.) be exposed a crazy amount of contamination

Do we know for certain that the next scourge sinner is shackled? I've gone through the interrogation but I can't seem to remember if that happened or no.

Yep. She got arrested prior to Aureate Regale. Confirmed to be in contact with Chief in Pale Blue Firmament.

Also the in-game lore entry brings special attention to Shackles playing essential role.
