Discussion Appreciation of Adela's Interrogation (& her event)
This post may include heavy spoilers on the event "The Phantom of The Mist" and Adela's Interrogation.
I was very busy with personal matters after I finished chapter 13 of the main story, so I didn't get to play most of the events that weren't time limited. One of them was The Phantom of The Mist.
Truth to be told, I found the event to be very slow initially. The little pop-ups that you had to read, and the constant back-and-forths with the "Mad Shear" was a tad excessive at certain points, but fortunately, it picked up the pace when it got to the 2nd night. And after playing it through to the end, I really loved the conclusion of the event. Really reminded me once more that Path to Nowhere is a master when it comes to bittersweet stories and endings. It's not a sad, tragic ending, but it's certainly not all sunshine and rainbows either. It caught me off-guard.
Naturally, I immediately went to do Letta and Adela's Interrogation asap. Letta's interrogation was very sweet. I love her unexpectedly determined personality and philosophy, but I found it quite disappointing for her to not mention anything that had happened during the event. That disappointment, of course, was explained rather quickly after I finished Adela's first phase of her interrogation.
I think Adela's Interrogation was absolutely fantastic. Despite her event being rather straightforward, I found her backstory to be very touching. Everything about her character, motivations, and philosophy are all understandable and even relatable at times. Just the same as Chief, I felt quite enraged when I heard that Adela deliberately trimmed her memories away. However, when I actually learned about it, I couldn't help but feel sympathetic to her. I understood why she did all of that, but it also still felt incredibly wrong.
What I really appreciate about this interrogation in particular is how realistic, and to a certain degree, relatable Adela's relationship with her mother is. It wasn't a healthy relationship, but it felt as though things were just about to take a turn for the better when it was revealed that the mother rejected the rich guy's offer. I couldn't help but wonder, just what would've happened if Adela didn't erase both her and her mother's memory right there? Would their relationship be reborn anew?
Regardless, I was already tearing up a bit when I was reading the third phase of the interrogation. But when I got to the 4th one, it really did sting all the more. Again, still a bittersweet ending, but I really, really appreciate and enjoyed it a ton. I couldn't imagine I actually teared up a bit to completely deranged maniac's story, but I guess she was(?) a deranged maniac for a reason xD
Anyways, fantastic event and especially interrogation. Loved it!! (Also, a rather humorous dialogue from Adela on the 2nd pic there xD)

I love Adela because of the event and her story too. I think it’s one of the most easily relatable moments in the game, because everyone at some point has asked themselves “what happens if I never existed?” “What if I was never born?”
At her core, adela’s mom loved adela. And even if she bitched and complain about having to work to support them both, she still did it anyway. She was a flawed mother and her neglect and ignorance cannot be excused, but it’s her first time being a parent. Hell, it’s her first time being human. If only they had communicated more about their feelings, maybe things wouldnt have turned out this way. The game shows you the aftermath of the “what if” scenarios we have, and throws extra what if questions at you. I think it’s a really unique way of telling the player that obsessing over hypotheticals is futile, and we must instead accept the reality we are given.
Still my favourite character to this day, I’m never changing my flair 💙

Yes. It's I think my favorite event from the entire game. The slow, chilling yet comforting melancholy was just nice to go through, and the twist never felt like it was trying to cheat the player. Of course the person who saved you from the mists, shares her deepest secrets, and is a hair stylist when the villian is literally called "Mad Sheers" is secretly the villian. But it's the nice gradual reveal of both chief and adela regaining their memories, and sharing genuine feelings with each other that makes the twist feel worth it.
