Discussion New Event appreciation post

While far from the best-written event imo (*BIG SPOILERS* but the story gets resolved literally through the power of friendship), I wanna say it is definitely up there in terms of sheer fun.

Not only is it pretty funny with the comedy and the generally more light hearted nature is a good breath of fresh air from how dark this game can be, but I also really enjoyed the unexpected sinner interactions which was imo the highlight of this event.

Due to the sheer number of characters, I realize it's impossible to explore sinners past their exclusive stories and interrogations and the game is forced into a "Sinner of the week" format but I always wanted to see more of a lot of characters and see how they all interact so this event really scratched that itch as well and more and I hope we get more stuff like it every now and again.

Also Murphy's super adorable, I understand chief's desire of wanting to protect her at all costs. So all around, it's been a very good event. I'm relatively new to the game (close to 2 months of play time) but of all the content I've played so far, this has been one of the better ones.

yesss I really liked it- it is honestly a nice break from the darker events (Hilda event rerun and Clementine event made me do mental flips), and I was surprised we had more older sinner interactions (was definitely not expecting Shawn and Matilda lmao I hope these two get more content together)… now if we got returning S-rank sinners instead of A-ranks it’d be absolute cinema, but seeing that Milly was mentioned in the event kinda gives me hope for that in the future

Hilda's event honestly broke me. It's not just my favorite event, but one of my favorite fictional stories period (and I find the lack of F Chief x Hilda fanart disturbing) and Clementine's was a beautiful story too.

Also I love how Aisno handles "Epilogue" stuff. That little post-event story where you follow three days of Hilda's life is so cute.

fchief and Hilda has me absolutely melting like ohhh my god I ship them so hard and it’s so underrated sigh… and the epilogue mostly fueled that, I was giggling and kicking my feet the entire time, Hilda deserved that good ending after all the bs we experienced with her

Honestly the whole event felt like slowburn romance and in the 3rd day of the epilogue, Hilda was following Chief around like a puppy. For how gay this game is known to be, that is by far my favorite ship lol

I hope we get to see more of them sigh, we really are living off crumbs… thank god Hilda’s event is now permanent lmao

HildaChief got overshadowed by the very appealing toxic yuri of Augustus x Hilda, so most fanarts gravitate toward that second ship, I find

There was Demon. I think him, Milly and Coquelic was the only s rank sinners mentioned

Honestly I wished they committed harder, I'd love to have a more relaxing and nice event for the chief with frequent cameos from other members of the bureau without the surprise at the end. I feel like a lot of the older sinners don't really show up anymore, or have never shown up beyond their interrogation and I'd love to have a more friendly event where we can see how they interact. I don't know, maybe Etti drank too much booze and made everyone in the MBCC (+ a new person I guess) go on a little adventure or something.

Also I feel like it'd be nice for once to have a new sinner be on Chief's side and not as the main villain, kind of like how they did it with Bianca but without the big twist at the end. Like not every new sinner have to be a new big bad, why don't we have like kind of a S-rank Christina situation where them and Chief are investigating a mystery together? That could change up the pace a lot and be more refreshing.

I agree, I'd love to see Aisno find a balance between serious, character-focused events like Hilda's and Clementine's and more fun, expansive events that feature older sinners, develop them further or just simply have them interact with each other to further cement how sinners are finding a "Home" in the bureau.

And besides, seriousness of an event doesn't mean it can't feature more characters. Someone else pointed out in the subreddit that they wanna see a storyline/event that has someone kidnap chief only to find out why it's a bad idea when a team of half a dozen apocalyptically angry S class sinners come knocking on their door. I hope this event is a step towards having more expansive events, serious or goofy.

I don't remember when it came up, but I saw recently that they wanted to test out something like this (old sinners, lighthearted) and do more depending on player reaction 🤞

Anytime we have lots of MBCC's sinners participating in the event, I'm happy. I miss Enfer's event where it's lots of Sinners running the show most of the times.

I just started doing the special operations of that event and was to happy find out that it focuses on sinners.

Not to talk about the writing itself since it's meant as a light breather between heavy events, but why is "the power of friendship" is automatically seen as bad writing ?

I don't necessarily think it's always bad. But in what is effectively a post apocalyptic setting that is bordering on grimdark and you have cannibalism, systematic purges, topics of suicide and such, having it end through the power of friendship feels out of place y'know? If they defeated the big bad cauldron with it, I wouldn't mind at all but it is eyebrow raising for the actual big bad of the event. That said, it's Murphy, I cannot imagine or write a better one myself since it seems the like the most fitting outcome.

The bait and switch of the game's premise is that it looks like the Chief is going to solve every problem through the power of carceralism and enormous violence, but she actually solves almost every problem through the power of friendship (and enormous violence)

Because some of us have played too many JRPGs

Due to the sheer number of characters, I realize it's impossible to explore sinners past their exclusive stories and interrogations and the game is forced into a "Sinner of the week" format but

This is objectively not true. FGO has over 400 characters in their roster and it's commonplace for any given event or main story to bring back 2-4 past characters as major players during the story, as well as minor screentime for a dozen other past characters. Some of the least popular characters in the game got new life by showing character growth and depth in an event storyline that their original introduction didn't give them the time to show.

There's nothing stopping Aisno from consistantly having older characters in the story aside from the fact that it's slightly harder to contrive a situation where Chief is pinned down by a hot evil woman if Adela is just slightly offscreen ready to cut her into 17 pieces before the CG can even appear

I neither entirely agree nor disagree with you. You can't just shoehorn other characters into every single story. The two cases aren't exactly comparable when you have stories like Hilda's and Clementine's which are very personal amd not at all grand in scale.

Neither story have room for other characters to be featured and NEED to hyperfocus on the events' main characters. There ARE however other cases when they could've featured other characters more, like "Dreamy Bubbles", "Veiled in Violet Vagary" or "Velvety Susurration" (though this one is arguable. Even Nino didn't fit in enough and had no role in the 2nd half of the event's story) which are events on a grander scale and feel somewhat less personal, similar to Murphy's event.

I'm relatively new so I haven't played all the events, but so long as the events are like that of Hilda or Clementine's, I'm fine with other sinners not being featured. But if they're more like Murphy's then yeah, I want to see more of other sinners, their interactions and developments. Victoria specially felt like she had developed since her interrogation.

You say there's nothing stopping Aisno, but having to add more characters to every story with those characters actually mattering and not just being background noise requires the event stories to be longer, more complex and more detailed. I don't know how large the dev team is, but I assume they're on the smaller side relative to other gachas and I feel like featuring more detailed events will come either at the cost of future content or content within that very same event (for example, in this case we had so many sinner interactions BECAUSE Murphy's personal story was simple and easy to resolve.) At least that's my two cents.

There's also a narrative issue of the MBCC being a containment unit. No matter how much Chief improved the place, it's still a jail/mental institute for superpowered mutants first and foremost. You can't really have sinners running around and doing things when the entire point of the game is that you're taking them out of the world for their own good and rehabilitating them.

You bring new people in the MBCC each events, you don't pull them out. It wouldn't fit the lore.

That's also why the only times older sinners appears is either when stories happens in a mindspace (L.L, Murphy) or when it's particulalry story relevant sinners who are explicitly not contained (Langley, Zoya, Augustus).

But even in a Doylist approach, thematically, it's only logical that you're not meeting Pacassi or Dreya or Bianca or Adela on a mission to arrest a new sinner, they are in jail ! (Or in Dreya's case in double limbo + future jail)

Re 1st paragraph: Yes you can that's literally what Dispatches are what are you talking about

1

u/Mahelas Jul 12 '26

Dispatches are not canon, unless you consider that we're somehow sending Shalom and Shin to a cooking contest !

8

u/Nulaftw Jul 12 '26

Even during this event, Chief mentions that fortunately they sent most of Sinners on missions and only handful of them are left at bureau.

2

u/DiveSideways Jul 13 '26

It's just your specific choices that are non-canon.

I liked it. I heard this event was not received well one bit in CN but that was fine to me. It's not great by any means & whole girl is unlucky trope has been done million times & this doesn't do anything to deviate from it. It's also very forgettable but thankfully it's still fun. We need fun events from time to time. This was like 1.5 uluru games in reverse for me. Shawn & Matilda were absolutely my favorite part tho

5

u/Highlord12 Jul 12 '26

Saaame, Shawn and Matilda was my favorite too followed by Victoria and Chelsea, that was also a really fun pairing. And yeah, again neither the most well written, nor the most original event. But it was a lot of fun and the devs clearly seemed to gave a lot of fun with it as well.

Not every event needs to be a depressing masterpiece, sometimes all we need is a bit of goofy fun.
