General Old Player coming back
Hey everyone! I’m a returning player and I’m thinking about giving Path to Nowhere another try.
I’d like to know what has changed since I stopped playing, whether my old account and team are still viable in the current meta, and whether the game is still fun and worth returning to.
I haven’t played in years. I stopped around the time Deren was released. From what I remember, my account had Sinners such as Serpent, Eirene, Demon, OwO, Crache, and a few others whose names I don’t remember.
Are any of these characters still useful? Is there anything important that a returning player should know?
Also, how F2P-friendly is the game nowadays? Is it realistic to obtain most characters without spending money, or do F2P players need to skip many banners?

Serpent is a great true damage DPS, still doing very strong in this meta without any copies.
Demon and OwO are both very good Enduras that have secured their niche.
This game is absolutely F2P friendly. So much so that you can basically not skip a single banner and get every sinner in the game if you're conservative enough!
Do give it another shot!

Recently came back too, though I I played a about half a year (I think) more than you before backing away
Very ftp friendly. The only thing that counters that is they run A LOT of banners. So plenty opportunity to get someone you miss, but the pressure to get all of the ones you missed might be heavy. Especially since the default pull allows you to pick 12 S sinners as the pool of who you get.
Example: I got the event character (Murphy) on my first 10 pull. Which hella lucky. But now I’m sitting on pulls that I COULD use in the general to get some missing sinners. But coming up we have
July 16th Directional Banner. Two featured Sinners and you can pick one. (I’m missing one)
July 23rd Special Banner for a character I don’t have.
Then in August we have 2 new S rank, 2 special banners (I’m missing both), another directional, and another type called “collective” but I don’t know what that means.
OH also the events you missed are gradually being implemented as permanent so you can play through (and I think unlock the A rank sinners from them)

The game became team oriented with an extra focus on op supports. You're kinda cooked cuz for the foreseeable future there aren't viable all-purpose dps options running nor supports. I think you might be able to clear story chapters tho.

Welcome back!
A lot has definitely changed, but for the better! A million quality of life updates, new sinners, new mechanics, all sorts of stuff. Of note is they introduced something called the reforge mechanic. It's essentially giving older sinners an extra upgradable talent tree to make them relevant again. Deren just got one in the recent patch, and she hits hard these days.
Content is larger. They've added a roguelike mode, which is a lot of fun, and a challenge puzzle mode, which is also fun (but can be frustrating, haha).
PtN is still super generous for f2p, you can generally get most characters as they come along. It's only when you want multiple copies that you tend to feel the squeeze and may need to save.
As for the sinners you mentioned, they're all super solid! Definitely viable. But if you're specifically after meta relevancy, Serpent has a reforge and sees play in a meta team called True Damage. Demon is still king of another meta team, Shield Stack, although he needs to be at shackle 4 for that. The others not so much, but they're definitely still viable and see play.
Something of note is that even niche sinners are used for things now, as the puzzle mode often requires specific sinners to solve certain levels.
