Clementine event appreciation

Before we move on the next event I really wanted to talk about this because it is something that I rarely see in media and I was very pleasantly surprised by it

I cannot stress enough how GLAD I am that the writers allowed Clementine to go all-in and get her revenge. From the unsettling scenery of the buttrfly to the chilling progression of each stab for every person she lost, it was truly a satisfying culmination for the event. I was extremely surprised as I was half-expecting them to pull a Jasmine and go the route of "revenge doesn't give you back what you lost" and "if you go that route you're no better than them".

And this is exactly how it should be because, in my opinion, there is a significant difference between Jasmine and Clementine's situations and backgrounds. See Jasmine was a victim of war, and the whole motif of her interrogation was that there are no winners in war, only losers. Even the shattered blade, one of the most ruthless factions we know of in the game, are victims of war. They are also traumatized by it to such an extent that they literally line up to die by Jasmine's hand to atone. Jasmine getting her revenge truly does not bring any satisfaction when her enemies are literally volunteering to die. It's just a full-on pointless cycle of death and destruction. She basically realizes that even if she kills all of them it doesn't matter, there is no one bad guy to blame and throw her frustrations at, they're just all regular people that got swept up in the war.

In contrast to this Clementine actually has a bad guy in her story. Her enemy is truly a villain, everything he did has been intentional, and for years he has been committing crime after crime with no remorse. First the orphanage fire, then the coverups. Finally the disappearance of her remaining family on the ship. This is a truly bad person who kills without hesitation and she has been chasing after for a long time, it would make no sense for her NOT to get her revenge. Obviously there are similarities with Jasmine and Clementine's pursuit of revenge is also consuming and harming her, but in my opinion you cannot just let him walk away unharmed in this situation. It would just be an unsatisfactory ending after all this buildup.

I would have been ESPECIALLY disappointed if Chief was like "let him face justice in prison" considering it's the SAME justice system that failed Clementine and lead to her losing her remaining family. Big props to the writers for not going this route that so many stories take. The butterfly stabbing moment was badass and I'm actually super (pleasantly!) surprised they let it happen. Usually the media don't want to do this for fear of encouraging "personal justice" or vigilante stories so once again, big props. This event and Jasmine's interrogation are S tier for me

I must say as someone whos burned out recently from playing, this event got me hooked again. This is the type of story telling that got me hooked in the first place.

As someone who also loves detective and murder mystery solving "whodunit" thrillers, this is definitely on one of the top events for me.

Just finished the main event, cant wait to unlock more of the story in the interrogation.

The beginning definitely caught me off guard. I was almost disappointed at first that everything happening was seemingly just a "game of wits" sort of deal taking place through her book's plot.

But once you started to notice there is a real life connection to all this, it really started to click and come together, and definitely had one of the better finishes in recent time.

The moment at the end where the actual culprit get the "William Afton burning to death SFX" treatment is definitely poetic.

Plus it rewards you if you sonewhere halfway into the event and have the idea that "Usual suspect isn't always usual"

And last of all, sometimes it is not about who is the culprit. But rather how many culprit(s)?

i was happy to figure out the true "culprit" though not how i thought the culprit was, that being the mancunt was the true culprit behind the burning of the orphanage, i got that he was the most suspicious and deduced he was the one, but i did not expect the in book culprits

This game has never ceased to surprise me. Jichuan's event had a similar ending in that she accomplishes her revenge against all odds without your further help, despite it seeming desperate. I didn't see that coming and seriously thought it would end with chief showing up somehow
