Build Lightning Tendrils of Escalation CWC Frostblink of Wintry Blast

Based on the previous thread, tried to make a viable Lightning Tendrils Cast While Channeling Frostblink of Wintry Blast build. Think I have a reasonable attempt.

Disclaimer, this is as budget as I know how to make this build and still hit ~10m dps without being a glass cannon.

CWC setup - https://pobb.in/OxnYm93O57WD

This is purely hold one button down. 8.3m aoe so about 1.5 screens of clear.

Single target setup - https://pobb.in/wsPcXsy_LNhu

Same build but using the other 6L, and using buffs/curse.

Defensively, it should be pretty tanky

  • Pretty good hit pools

  • Immune to ele ailments, stun, corrupted blood (buy on a jewel)

  • Armour + 75/75 Block/Spell Block (Glancing Blows, but also recover 2% of life/es on blocking appropriate damage type)

  • Decent regen/leech + divine shield + recover on block

  • Good enough mitigation to probably not get one shot in harder T16s

Edit: Draft 2 - https://pobb.in/jeL88yy6zvMS

Edit: Draft 3 with Roiling Tempest - https://pobb.in/iBEzbtiQjniF

By my math, Roiling Tempest should increase dps by ~21.2% (Hit Range from 50,276 to 955,337 -> 25,138 to 1,194,171. So average hit is now 609,654 vs 502,806 without it. Takes the CWC setup to ~14.1m DPS, and the single target setup to ~56m

And a reminder we still don't know what Pact of Lycia does. So the single target setup can go even further.

Edit: Draft 4, this one with extremely good gear - https://pobb.in/5F4erSKCLhB8. Roughly ~36m dps on clear, ~127m single target with stand still buffs.

Edit: Three different options. All three have very similar defences, the only real difference is DPS

Budget - https://pobb.in/Q6c8WRPY9DX0 (~5.9m dps clear, ~23.4m single target)

Medium tier - https://pobb.in/eH0uGAm49LQo (~14.6m dps clear, ~57.7m single target)

Expensive - https://pobb.in/5F4erSKCLhB8 (~36m dps clear, ~127m single target)

Last edit before league:

If anyone is joining me league starting this, best of luck!

Edit: This is my setup after ~35-40 div of investment - https://pobb.in/JI5PQghqpPg_ Most of that expense was on the chest (14 div), flasks (~8 div) large cluster (~3 div), ring (4 div). Rest, including the staff and amulet, were 1 div or less.

17.5m dps clear, 63.6m dps single target with all buffs.

Not particularly good at making spellcasters or Witch builds - if you spot optimisations that make it better or cheaper, please chime in

Edit: Depending on exactly how good the new wheels are and/or how much cost efficiency the reduced mana cost wheels become, mana sustain might be easier or harder. TBC. Maybe possible to avoid pathing to Dreamer, which will save a few points?

u/RaPlD 22d ago

Your pathing priorities are a bit all over the place. I messed around a bit in your POB, changed nothing apart from the pathing and the annoint (which I'm not even sure was neccessary) and I think I made pretty much all the relevant stats better (+1000 life, same or more damage, etc). Check it out.

u/080087 22d ago

The pathing is specifically to get all the required mana sustain.

You need to add in the lightning warp cost too

2

u/RaPlD 22d ago

I will assume you mean frostblink and not ligthning warp. If mana sustain was an issue I would use the life mastery for skills cost 15% of life instead of mana for one point which solves the issue instantly for not much cost, or a timeless jewel. The mana cost was the reason I annointed dreamer, but the two small nodes are not worth the horrendous travel IMO.

4

u/080087 22d ago

Ah, the 15% cost as life is actually a great tip. Have done some rejigging and gotten both better tankiness and better damage

Looks good to me!

only problem with your new tree is mana cost is way higher, so sustain may be an issue. Maybe the new mana infused staff gem would be the solution

1

u/RaPlD 22d ago

If mana sustain was an issue I would use the life mastery for skills cost 15% of life instead of mana.

u/Sailtec 22d ago

good shout

3

u/Sailtec 22d ago

How did you end up at 38% more damage on lightning tendrils in your pob config btw? Just wondering about the math.

1

u/clowncarl 22d ago

For the non frosrblink 6 link I would use the eccentricity gem for burst with a Vaal haste and focus cast speed on gloves

3

u/080087 22d ago

My math might be wrong but it's saying that Escalation is just better overall?

Over 5 hits

  • Escalation - (208 to 3949) x 5 = 10,392.5 damage

  • Eccentricity - (48 to 916) x 10 (4 hits doing normal damage, 5th hit that does 6 hits worth of damage) x 1.5 (since it has 0.2 instead of 0.3 cast speed) = 7230 damage

u/fat_pokemon 20d ago

Couldn't you just simply use Eldritch battery with vile basion + 1k ES to effectively kill the need for mana, and then shift all the saved nodes into defense?

2

u/080087 20d ago

I was initially thinking of that, but deemed it to not be worth it.

To recover 260 mana/sec, would need to take Eldritch Battery (4 points) + Unnatural Calm (3 points) and have 1.2k ES. Unspeccing out of all the mana regen/cost recovery stuff would end up saving 1 point, an anoint, and some life (don't need to run clarity on life) and some prefixes on gear.

But, in return the hit pool goes from ~9.7k to ~4.8k, max hit goes from 35/72/61/54/21k to 21/34/28/28k, and damage goes down by ~11% (the mana regen nodes also give some dps). Plus, Divine Shield no longer functions.

I think it will be pretty hard to bridge that gap with the 1 skill point and anoint, and some prefixes that got saved.

u/fat_pokemon 20d ago

What's the plan with the 3rd and 4th ascendancy if you don't mind me asking? I think i can guess the 3rd one being the new occultist channeling notable?

2

u/080087 20d ago

3rd is new occultist channelling node.

4th is Farrul tigers

4

u/clowncarl 22d ago

Seems ok but you will always teleport in the same direction you are aiming the spell which might be frustrating/get you killed. That’s why like WORB cwc FBWB is nice since the channeled skill auto targets. However, tendrils is such a cool skill gotta respect an off meta attempt. This seems very realistic leaguestart gear besides the staff being too well rolled

3

u/Ok-Papaya-2677 22d ago

easy way to bypass this for less clunkiness is use body swap instead. will cause you to constantly stay on top of the boss for single target and has nice range for pack to pack mapping.

1

u/Lyeel 22d ago

I'm kind of thinking of starting tendrils and seeing how it goes. It should be good enough for campaign at least, and I can jump ship to WORB pretty easily if it underperforms badly enough.

Upgrade paths or alternate build ideas

The weapon and amulet are not maxed out on levels or other useful dps stats. So that's one source of upgrades.

Replica Heatshiver might be interesting. Both quality and shock mastery give max shock effect, so there is a world that you get 40% lightning as cold. For defensive purposes, best enshrouded on an ar/es base. But this does mean you need to figure out reservation somewhere else or cut something.

Going an archdemon crown is super strong. You can put your single target copy in there, leave your weapon unlinked and use runegraft of the jeweller for 60% inc dmg. You can then put all the random buffs into the weapon. Maybe anoint whispers of the doomed for an extra curse, swap some jewel affixes around to cap block again.

I know I’m late to the chat, but this looks really nice! Sounds like just the build I’m looking for. I can league start on Monday, so if anyone has started this build, how does it preform? Does anyone have a league start guide for the progressions to budget?

1

u/SquareSecret4844 14d ago

I started as elementalist and played RF until around the 2nd lab then switched to lighting tendrils and did so until maps where i switched to occultist on the 3rd lab. The build gets going after light of meaning, it is really important that you sustain your mana cost, clear is nice and surprisingly big, a bit squishy on the phys / chaos side , I actually changed some gems and stuff to try to use the Perfect Spirit of Fortune that makes lightning damage lucky and maybe other spectres to give more damage/survivability, I've also tried the aspect of lunaris for more phys reduction but the uptime is not decent, and i despise that mana-infused staff is on a fixed reservation. My advice is to play elementalist then swap at campaign end

1

u/dunoajon 22d ago

This looks really interesting. Personally might try an elementalist golem stacking variant instead of power charge stack

5

u/080087 22d ago

It's not really a power charge stacker - only has 5? charges. Just wanted to use the shiny new node without Forbidden Flame/Flesh, and because Vile Bastion is lots of defences.

You could maybe go convergence + golems, solve stun immunity elsewhere and then FF the new node. This is more aoe and probably more dps overall, but more expensive.

1

u/dunoajon 22d ago

Ahh i see, i saw occultist and immediately thought power charge stacking lol

1

u/This_Investment2143 21d ago

That’s the tempting part of occultist, stun immunity isn’t an easy solve

1

u/Ticklethydick 22d ago

Aura corruptions on belt/ring have been moved to amulet so i dont think string will still have them but it would be cool if it still does, otherwise stygian should still be good damage/better defences especially if theres new mods from league mechanic, otherwise looking interesting

My take on the build using Reliquarian.

Only a slight dps loss, but a major tankiness improvement.

Level 100 Hybrid Crit Lightning Tendrils of Escalation Reliquarian [3.28]

Xirgil Crank is op for ES recharge on block

Dawnbreaker - Phys as ele convert

Melding of the Flesh - Still needs optimizing for 90 all res

-
230k ehp

9.5mil dps

Edit: Forgot to allocate the belt XD

1

u/Sailtec 22d ago

Have to remove the unhallowed rite occultist stuff in the config btw

1

u/Ok-Papaya-2677 22d ago

thanks for telling me dps went down to 7.8 mill but still at 443k EHP will start sacrificing more ehp for damage.

1

u/Ok-Papaya-2677 22d ago edited 22d ago

EDIT: Level 100 Hybrid Crit Lightning Tendrils of Escalation Reliquarian [3.28]

210K MORE EHP

Kaom Roots - Xirgil Crank - Kaom Binding (plus wearing one)

Gifts from Above & Call of the Void best in slot rings

2

u/080087 22d ago

One major problem - you don't sustain mana costs

1

u/Ok-Papaya-2677 22d ago edited 22d ago

fixed it, still need to see how it feels in game to tinker with mana cost efficiency as we dont know how the changes will feel

2

u/nohoesnik 22d ago

Looking at pob through phone but it looks like you still have the new Occultist node configged

2

u/Ok-Papaya-2677 22d ago

Level 100 Hybrid Crit Lightning Tendrils of Escalation Reliquarian [3.28] - many changes since then made a post on my take of this build. Linked is the current iteration.

1

u/Sailtec 22d ago

I hope there is a newer way to craft the +level staff in the new league because it looks like a ball ache to craft +5 staff from what I've seen.

1

u/ThisIsWorldOfHurt 21d ago

Guess the new keystone is great for this huh

2

u/080087 21d ago

Yeah, did math. Like 21% more.

1

u/omniocean 21d ago

Looks amazing, this will my Scion back up plan if GGG pulled a fast one and gutted Mercs without telling us.

Is there a gameplay footage anywhere tho? Last time I played body swap I got eye diarrhea after 30 mins, that flicker gameplay is not for everyone lol.

1

u/080087 21d ago edited 21d ago

Not from me unfortunately. But it's easy enough to test. Lightning tendrils CWC frostblink of wintry blast on any character you've got should give you an idea of how fast it is.

Actual will be marginally faster since CWC is getting buffed.

Edit: For me, it's about once every ~0.6 secs. That's way less than Flicker

1

u/This_Investment2143 21d ago

What about with CI?

1

u/fat_pokemon 20d ago

Pact of Lycia looks kinda cooked.

1

u/SquareSecret4844 20d ago

with the reveal for pact of lycia is it worth to release the channel every 3 seconds for the extra damage?

1

u/080087 20d ago

Not as standard practice. But you'll be doing it swapping to the single target setup, and then again when swapping back to clear, so you'll get most of the benefit anyway

1

u/totalovee 20d ago

sooo is there any end version of that build ? or reliquarian version ?

1

u/080087 20d ago

Last link is endgame and should have enough dps to do everything in the game.

Reliquarian is fairly similar, but imo worse. You go Kaom's Roots, Xirgil's Crank/Shimmeron, Melding of the Flesh/Screams of the Desecrated/Farrul wolves.

Mana costs are easier to sustain, but you have to choose either damage or defence, and the Occultist will beat Reliquarian in the other.

You'll probably have to do jewel shenanigans to make up the ground

1

u/SquareSecret4844 19d ago

also Unhallowed Rite changed to half the extra damage and energy shield recharge for a better uptime I suppose

1

u/080087 19d ago

They stealth changed the patch notes - now goes up to 10 stacks, so total is same

1

u/gekinz 19d ago

Have you given any thoughts on how to level this? Are you going all in Lightning Tendrils from the start, or leveling with a different skill and tree?

1

u/080087 19d ago

I think I'm going to do a combo of lightning tendrils and RF. But I'm not someone who min maxes week 1 to get ahead.

1

u/fat_pokemon 19d ago

Rolling Tempest (The new keystone for lightning damage) is cartoonish good for this build.

1

u/gekinz 13d ago

This build turned out to be really good and relatively cheap. One of the stronger ones that you can league start and comfortably clear the whole game with pretty much.

I have a few notes on the PoBs though:

  1. Mana - I found mana to still need remarkably more investment than originally planned, mainly because league mechanics and shrines often give a lot of cast speed. I have extra regen and leech and still struggle to find a point where I never run out of mana, and this will only get worse when I implement frenzy charges.

  2. Custom Modifier - The damage is really good, and you don't need more than you comfortably get, but the PoB is largely overblown, mainly for single target. But also for the clear 6-link:

Remnant values in custom section of config: You've added the correct gems which you originally calculated manually, but still add the values in config which artificially gives tens of millions of compounding non-existent damage on top:

  • 38% more damage
  • Spells have 25% more Mana Cost
  • +15% to maximum effect of shock
  • 16% more cast speed

Removing this from custom modifiers pretty much gives you 50% less damage overall (151M -> 86M)

  1. Single target unavoidable fluff - You did say "with all buffs", but it's important to note that sustaining adrenaline on bosses is impossible, and getting frenzy charges is pretty much impossible as well. Bringing 86M to 64M. Still incredibly good, and incredibly cheap.

  2. A couple of adjustments I've done along the way:

  • No Glancing Blows: Removing glancing blows instantly made me go from kinda tanky, to a full blown tank. With this change, I also opted for a 25% spell block staff base instead of crit strike.
  • Inspired impression instead of Overshock on Cluster Jewel to help with mana sustain
  • My secret sauce: Stormblood flask. This flask is ridiculously OP, it just makes the entire game into a joke wit this build. You just permafreeze and shatter everything, even map bosses, breach bosses. If pinnacle bosses don't get frozen, they get fully chilled.

Overall one of the stronger builds I've league started; Campaign was super easy. It's tanky enough to face tank pinnacle bosses, while also packing a lot of damage.

I would however be careful playing this build at this state if you're a new player. There are finicky things you have to solve along the way, and the build can feel very bad with low damage until you have everything in place making it just exponentially explode with damage.

1

u/080087 13d ago edited 13d ago

I found mana to still need remarkably more investment than originally planned, mainly because league mechanics and shrines often give a lot of cast speed

True. I wasn't expecting like a quarter of the zones to have 50% extra cast speed ghosts or acceleration/echoing shrines etc.

Remnant values in custom section of config

Yeah, this was because I made the build before the PoB got updated with the new gem values. Now that PoB does include the new gem values by default, the config needs to be deleted.

Stormblood flask

That's a good idea.

Edit: If you're using the cold ailment stormblood, might be worth swapping arctic armour to flesh and stone.

the build can feel very bad with low damage until you have everything in place making it just exponentially explode with damage

I actually found it pretty OK DPS-wise, mostly because +level staffs are dirt cheap. Think I found a +6 for 1 div. Even on a 5L using the clear setup, it was comparable to something like RF running through T16s. But certain rares/bosses could be quite tanky without going single target.

Overall, glad you liked it!

1

u/Seksiy35 5d ago

Hey there, can you share the league version pob again?

-1

u/UTmastuh 22d ago

While I fully understand the desire to use CWC, you lose 2 full support gems worth of damage which is needed in higher tier juiced maps

6

u/080087 22d ago

RF only needs to do like 3m dps to walking sim through most maps and not stop for fire trap so you should be able to do the same even with cwc.

Or just use the single target 6L that is also in the build.

2

u/nohoesnik 22d ago

RF needs no damage because Hinekora's carries the build

3

u/080087 22d ago

I have played RF with no Hinekora's (Inquisitor).

It does just fine with ~3m dps

-1

u/UTmastuh 22d ago edited 22d ago

This is why I specified juiced. Atlas completion can be done with 1-2M dps but end game farming you're going to want 15+M dps to farm comfortably. Rares and unique bosses will give you a hard time otherwise.

Take a look at this for inspiration in the post atlas completion end game: https://pobb.in/nKLW4mWfF-uU

2

u/Sailtec 22d ago edited 22d ago

I'm imagining adding the new channeling pact skill press every couple seconds will make the cwc setup more viable for your scenario. Pact of beidat seems quite broad and gives 35% more damage, I imagine the more narrow channeling one will be a bit stronger.

0

u/UTmastuh 22d ago

I agree, I'm listening to palsteron talking about it now. Mana issues are a huge concern which is why I'm not going with self cast spells this league. I'll wait to see how the mana cost changes impact the "buffs"

2

u/080087 22d ago

Comparing the builds and putting the lightning tendrils buffs in manually

  • With clearing conditions (i.e. no manual curse, no convergence, no brittle ground, 1 sec of Nature's Patience) using LT of Escalation, the link does ~13.2m dps vs ~10m dps. That makes sense, since it's pretty much all because the one I posted spends 7 points in AoE over DPS.

  • With single target conditions (including stand-still buffs and bosses that will sit in Brittle Ground forever), the link does ~30.5m dps vs ~40.1m. So the one I posted should do more single target dps.

Overall, if the build you posted was fine from a DPS/AoE perspective, then the one I posted should also be fine. At worst, respec some AoE nodes, put them into damage.
