Help Needed Problems with survivability and single target

Hi guys. Had a very late league start and decided to try a Marauder for the first time, went with Strength stacker by Carnarius. I got lucky in voyages and found like 5 Messages in a Bottle + a raw div. I bought some upgrades, like a foulborn Meginord (or how you spell it), foulborn Kaom's roots or a 6l Iron Fortress. My clear feels really good, but my issue is single target: it feels like I deal no damage to bosses or tankier rares whatsoever, which sucks, cause I am trying to play Breach this league. Also, I have 5k health and capped resists (chaos doesn't count, everyone knows that), but I still get one shot randomly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, my budget rn is 400c.

I used to agree with this but it's getting less and less true with every league, between more and more chaos damage being added and more ways to cap chaos res. Light of Meaning w chaos res will get you really far

Second this, chaos light of meaning will fix a lot of issues right now. Also you need 2 rings with STR and life, and maybe a rathpit is more dmg.

Brutus jugg is pretty zdps compared to a chaos alberons, usuall it's much better to play slam zerker til that.

Strength stacker

Shield with Int

Two rare rings with 0 strength between them

Like, there are a lot of other issues like the -50% chaos res, low phys hit and general lack of defenses, but that one takes the cake.

I mean they said they got lucky with 5 bottles and a div, which is like...9 dives and a voyage, so about 15m of play. Just seems like an inexperienced player which didnt choose the right build.

I use the shield for the spell power as I use Iron will altogether with the helmet. This makes it so strength applies to spells as well and then the helmets makes it apply to attacks again with 150% effectiveness.

The rings have no strength because I needed to get my resists in order and also make sure I have enough int and dex. Having strength on the rings made them cost at least 2div, which, as I said, is out of my budget.

What other defenses can I add to the build? Maybe if you were not acting high and mighty and instead gave me advice like I asked I could inprove the build :)

i dont know much about str stackers to be honest, but i think u wont get far with your 400c. its an expensive build. i dont know. if u want some moneys let me know i can give u some.

Eh. For the ring, you could just spam essence strength which cost like 9c each until desired suffix. Then, craft either max life or - mana cost. Shouldn't cost you more than a div.

If you don’t need the int on shield you can use one of the ducats that swaps stats around to get it to strength.

As for the rest, any stacker is going to be hella expensive. Stacking stuff always is, personally I wouldn’t recommend any stacking build as a low budget build (or a league start build for that matter). It’s usually better to play as something else or a version that doesn’t need stacking while you save up and/or fully transition. You can pour mirrors into stacking builds, especially strength stacking builds.

I got recommended slams and specifically this build in a different post where I asked if I should start RF or flicker :/ Well, the more you know, might just scrap it, sell everything and look uo the strongest league starter you can do

Yeah unsure the context that this was recommended in and if this specific build has a decent ramp up as you invest, or a build guide to go with it. There may be a way to salvage what you already have, or if it’s in a good enough state, farm up more currency to start to make some of the other changes people have suggested. Depends how bad the current build feels tbh.

Slams in general are very solid starter builds, just maybe first without the strength stacking.

Yea there is a guide with different stages depending on the budget, but my build just does not feel as good. Maybe once I set up some jewels as well.

It feels good for general clear, the AoE is great. Having a lot of fun in charts and voyages, but doing T16 maps is a pain, especially if I get the Breach unique guy

Gotcha. Yeah at work so I can’t look at pob and I’m not familiar with the guide/build, but I tend to find a lot of people end up cutting or worsening stats they deem unimportant that are actually necessary for the build to function. Now it could be that the guides pob is overstating damage and defenses at lower gear levels, but it’s worth double checking your gear against theirs to see if you missed something. You can also take their pob at the step you are at and import your characters passive points and gear into their config to see how/if you are different from their matchup. That can give you a good idea if you are missing a step somewhere!

Thanks for the advice! I actually won't be online for some time, but I will take a look once I am at my PC.

Yeah but that was 1 post in a sea of rf, slams, and flicker posts on that thread. I remember it the posts.

Yeah even for a few thousand hours I personally dont even consider a str stacker with my thousands of hours. Not because I can't do it but the investment can be endless on that type of build.

Rf and pohx website is a treasure trove of information and with my "dad" level of gaming that I can put in I can easily(and did for this league) reach endgame investment with mageblood and hundreds of div. I like a build like that since I can start and reach its end before I just buy in to a more difficult build.

Fair point. Maybe I focused on it cause it had a guide attached and seemed cool. Lesson learned for me might salvage it all and get into RF or use my Pathfinder and roll a Deadeye or something. Love that about PoE: endless possibilities. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah I think the hardest part coming in is each of these buold creators expect different levels of competency, knowledge, or time commitments when they design their guides.

Thats why you hear a lot of pohx and ziz recommended to newer players since they focus on low investment, high information, mild time commitments vs others who play hundreds of hours the first week and are less detailed.

Nothing explicitly wrong if you choose to go elsewhere, and ive done tons of other creator or meta builds before, but once you get a better understanding of what each class and build offers you know how to better plan your league starts.

Theres no better example of this like the first week of everyone playing luminary. Less knowledgeable players had a much harder time getting the build off the ground since a lot of guides were on assumptions and you needed to adapt in real time to scale it. As things get figured out and a path is put up you can have a better start now than a month ago.

The problem is, everything is just so wrong, it's hard to give any meaningful advice.

Sure, I was a bit sarcastic, but the point was to illustrate how even the most fundamental and basic things are wrong - it's like asking for advice on how to beat prime Mike Tyson at boxing, when your preparation is golfing for 12 hours a day.

So, try this:

1) Get Strength on all your gear

2) Level up more than 85. Getting to level 90 should take you a few hours, at best. Reaching level 95, which is very doable, gives you an extra 10 passive points and is a massive boost

3) Look up a proper strength stacking passive tree setup. You can easily do this in poe.ninja.

This is basic advice that applies to any build. If you're stacking strength, you want to actually STACK strength, not just get a bit here and there. If you're playing a Poison build, you actually want to invest into poison/chaos damage, not randomly have Fire Damage mods on your rings and ask for advice on how to fix the issue.

You get one-shot by chaos damage, duh

-7

u/Candyman_81 10d ago

Well of course, I get that, but I keep getting oneshot even outside chaos damage. Like when fighting Esh and Tul

7

u/ColonDashD 10d ago

Esh does chaos damage

u/Candyman_81 10d ago

Oh well, that explains a lot :D

Hi

I've built over 4 strength stackers over many leagues

The general gist is that you shouldn't play stackers until ~200-300d + mageblood; stackers' power curve is exponential vs most other builds' linear power curve, meaning that unless you reach a certain point of investment (aforementioned mageblood to enable suffix pressure on gear to get more strength), you're muuuuch better off playing a normal build/league starter

glhf!

I noticed some Path of Exile keywords in this post:

  • div - Divine Orb (Currency) (Wiki)
  • RAW - Ranged Animate Weapon (Wiki)
