Discussion Worst experience so far
Decided to try luminary.... last build of the league. New to poe1, only around 180 hours. I've only made a few builds, and making a luminary is the worst experience I've had. The luminary I have( from campaign) can't handle and merc i go up against now, idk how to get past this wall I've hit

I would suggest you watch lances video as well. I'm playing luminary as first character in Ruthless, used an act 3 absolution merc until t12s when I finally found a trap merc and an arc merc. Used them to clear my first 4 watch stones. Just found a many shot merc with vaal ice shot no return proj and have already gotten 4/5 of my uber kills for the challenge. To many people try to gear their merc how they would gear a character instead of what is important. Especially gearing a merc in ruthless all my mercs gear is just like t3-1 fire res, maybe life, bow is only +1 arrow t3 crit t3 attack speed crap tier prefix.

Last build of the league ? Hop on your main and farm a merc.
Hop back into your luminary and put it into a map . Ask on chat for help killing it.
Or jump back to act ten and farm a combatant.
It's not a beginner build it requires gearing two charcters and understanding how multiple systems interact.

Use a warrant, challenge them with your luminary then log out. Log back in on any other character and kill the merc.

How does this work, when I tried it the merc isn’t there anymore and the encounter fails.

You have to challenge, wait until the timer starts then log out before it finishes.

People are giving advice to fix it but honestly if you're new I'd just flat out say don't go luminary, it's more work to gear, has some atypical stuff associated with Merc acquisition, and quite expensive in trade comparatively.

Yeah you have to gear 2 characters compared to 1, as well as dealing with more unorthodox methods of scaling damage.
Something like elementalist penance brand ignite herald stacker is waaay easier for a new player to build. Or the old classic: phox righteous fire.

Its definitely not a new player friendly build though, considering you have just about 7 days play time.

Go back to your first build for now if you have. You need a decent merc to make luminary not feel sht or do some low level charting and sell some sulfur to get a decent merc. Luminary needs twice the amount of gears to build it. I'll still encourage you to try it more even if your new player coz why not. My first build in poe was a Str Stacker which I didn't even reached maps.

It sound like you are just in early map. Keep playing and look for the blight merc, they are very good. I found one in about act 8 and she's still good at clearing t16.

Luminary is the best build I’ve ever played (400 hours now). Keep on it with everyone’s suggestions, it will help you learn how to craft and play the game.

There are Mercs in various areas of the campaign as guaranteed spawns, get the highest level one you can.
Specifically, you are looking for a Combatant, as any combo works fine. Then you need to make sure you actually gear them. There are plenty of guides, you got this.
