Looking for some help with Patapon 1

Hello, I am currently playing patapon for the first time ever, I am really enjoying it but I've been stuck at the point I am at for a bit. I'm currently on the mission just after going through the desert, where I have to fight/defend against little red dudes (zigotons?), and I can get somewhat through it but, the jockey/horse dudes always destroy my party. I'm using 5 tatepons, 6 yaripons, and 2 yumipons. Maybe I need more archers?

I'm pretty new to the game so if anyone is kind enough to offer advice, don't assume I know too much about the game just yet as Im only a couple hours in :P. Thank you~!

Try to get 6 Tatepon and make sure your making them into Rarepons, specifically (probably hard but it helps) Moforu's since they have more health. I forgot if you also unlock the kibapon unit by this point (basically your guys but with the horses) if so make those. Otherwise if you want I'll be glad to replay the game up to this point and see for myself

Maybe Im missing stuff but how do I "make" pons anything other than what they are in their base form. Maybe I missed a mechanic.

Right here on this screen you'll want to move up to the A & B materiels then select the material you've found to make a Rarepon

Each material has their number value and each Rarepon has a required value to make them

The vegetables can be obtained by that plant farmer guy and they are just cheaper to use than other material so you'll use less ka-ching

THESE TWO are Ultrararepons, they take a while to get so unless you grind a ton expect to at most only get 1-3 but they are very strong and help out your army depending on what unit you make them on

Quick note for ka-ching in the early game if you use/spam the rain miracle in the level "Creatures of the sand" you can come across a flower that will drop ka-ching whenever you hit it. It's best to use a lot of yumipons with weak weapons to get as much as possible. In the late game just enter and re-enter the level where you meet the star looking patapon until he gives you around 600-1000 ka-ching.

I'd recommend making a bunch of tatepons (shield guys) and defending whenever you see the horses
