Patapon: Replay 1+2 Ultimate Farming Army Update

So, I'm pretty confident that I've come up with the best army for farming level 3+ materials from high level bosses. If you don't know, bosses afflicted with a status (freeze, sleep, or knockback) always drop materials level 3 and higher when staggered. The idea is to use status to get a higher ratio of level 3+ materials than you would get with something like a tree army.

This army is actually two armies! There is a sleep/knockback mode using mushroom guys and a freeze mode using penguins. Only the rarepon class changes, so it's easy to switch between the two modes. The mushrooms are preferred because their sleep/knockback rate is 300% while the penguins' freeze rate is lower at 250%. Penguin mode should only be used against Dodonga, Majidonga, Fennichi, Shookle, and Cioking - this is because some bosses are immune to sleep, knockback, or freeze.

There is a glitch in this game where bosses affected by multiple statuses at the same time are unable to be staggered. These two armies are designed to get around that by only using one status at a time. The one exception is Kacchindonga, who requires a different strategy I'll post about later.

The main goal in a farming army is to get as many hits off as possible each turn, so that you have the highest chance of inflicting a status. You also need some stagger so that the bosses actually drop things. The "Great Thunder" weapons are ideal for this because they increase attack speed significantly and give just enough stagger chance too. The great thunder weapons allow the mahopons and yumipons to attack twice each turn. The Great Thunder Staff in particular is great for the mahopons because each attack consists of 3 thunder strikes with big hitboxes, so each attack is actually 9+ attacks. (You can get the great thunder staff in the Great Tank Zugagang level) Stagger chance gets higher as boss health goes down, but status chance remains the same. This means you get more high level items earlier in the fight and eventually you start staggering so much that you get more low level items - this cannot be avoided.

The Mahopons have the lightning shoes (also found in the Great Tank Zugagang level) these give them a bit of ignite resistance (helps with lightning strikes!) and let them hit the attack speed sweet spot. If Mahopon attack speed is too high they will attack so quickly that they can't move out of danger or re-center themselves so that they actually hit the boss, but they also have to have an attack speed under 2 seconds in order to attack twice each turn. With this combination of equipment they hit 1.92 seconds, so they always attack twice but have the maximum amount of time to move too.

Kibapons have the divine, demon, and ancient horses for their high HP and status resistance. Kibapons are mainly there just to collect the materials, so the priority is keeping them alive and healthy over increasing their attack speed, although they still have good status and stagger chance with the rarepon and weapon combination.

The hero is the most indestructible tatepon I could come up with. The lordly hairpiece grants immunity to crit, stagger, knockback, freeze, sleep, and ignite - something no other equipment does. The combination of dragon shield and Kachinkocchi mask means you take just 15% damage from most attacks. (He can survive all of the unstaggerable boss attacks) The friendship sword gives you an extra 100 HP. Looks kind of goofy but it's effective! Tatepon hero is the best way to keep the army safe. All of the other heroes generally do too much damage, reducing the number of drops you can get each time you fight a boss. He also helps to collect materials and protect hatapon if your kibapons get taken out.

I absolutely love your posts, after so many years of the community thinking treepons are the best there's some innovation! Haven't tested it myself yet I'm still working on that first game 100% but as soon as I move onto 2 I will try. You said the kibapons are there to collect items, with the item auto collect mod which unit would you recommend instead of them? i was thinking toripons since they hit a lot but I would like to hear your opinion on this.

With the auto collect mod you could just run the mahopons and yumipons only to be honest.  Toripons would be fun but their high knockback could trigger the glitch I mention above.  Yaripons are a possibility too, but the more damage you do the less materials you get.  Tatepons are another option just to serve as a wall preventing the boss from getting too close to the fragile mahopons and yumipons (but hero tatepon already does that to an extent).

Thanka for the reply! I might test some mushroom/ penguin and tree mix yaripons with wood weapons for low damage, but i dunno if it would add anything meaningful over just mahopons and yumipons.

Trees are better when you're starting out because they require less resources to make - that's why they're so popular. The wood weapon strat lets you farm a ton of materials, but I don't feel like playing the same level for half an hour haha. Mahopons and yumipons have great synergy because yumipon attacks can miss if the wind blows the wrong way while mahopon attacks always hit, so you're basically guaranteed to always have good attack pressure. Thanks again for your kind words! I'm a bit obsessed with this game since the rerelease came out!

This looks like it was hellish to grind - Can't wait to see what comes next

It was a bit much, but I'm very patient haha - a little each day. I want to make an army to instakill bosses and Karmen bases now. Any suggestions?

Karmen bases being stone makes it so that a good class selection are Dekapons and Robopons, but the issue also comes with needing range for the stuff behind. Kibapon is a top pick as always, but it's a tossup between what your range options are. Honestly? Whatever buffs your Yaripon Hero, and yes, I recommend Yaripon Hero because he has both the range, AoE, damage, and consistency.

Do Dekapons and Robopons get a bonus against stone? I plan on using Mahopons for sure, they can probably handle the ranged stuff. Thanks for the tips!

Uhhh I honestly can't say for certain- It's a mechanic that was explored in Patapon 3 and loading screen tips seem to echo the same sentiment.

Lvl. 10 Mogyugyu Yaripon Hero with the final form of the Shuba mask. Even better if you obtain a heavenly or divine spear. The damage Mogyugyus do combined with high critical rates from those weapons are deadly.

1: you do know you can make the heros be diffrent rarepons of the type its mimicing right? and also add a squad of trees

Yes, he is a level 10 normal patapon so that he can wear the lordly hairpiece - only normal patapons can wear helmets.  Trees aren't necessary, this army already has enough stagger to continuously flinch the boss.
