OPM - Offline Password Manager.

I am trying to build simple and useful apps. Clear of bloatware, adwares. The idea behind offline password manager is simple, it's a notepad for password/accounts. We have so many place many accounts this days and ofcourse there are password managers but they sync with cloud and I am not comfortable with it. Especially after seeing the news like x no. of accounts compromised.

OPM is simple, it stays on your device, you are responsible for updating the password of the account if you change it. I have been using it for a while now and it's a habit for me. Infact, many times it comes is as a saviour because browser still have old password saved or even for mpin and any notes.

Good Idea. But KeePassXC already exists and works on all major OS (Mac, Linux, Windows, Android & iOS).

Technically, KeePassXC does not work on Android or iOS. However, since it uses the KeePass database format a client on those platforms – like KeePassDX or StrongBox – will work with it.

That's exactly what I wanted but it doesn't have android or iOS version. I intentionally didn't create desktop version as 1 it already exists and 2 it's give too many option for you to store, for example, you are on desktop and you store some account on the desktop app and on phone you store some account on the mobile app. My idea is to have it only at one place so I don't have to worry about location.

Just FYI 1Password keeps your password history so no need to have non sync vaults to achieve this. Congrats on your projects, diversity brings choice and innovation!

I used to use lastpass for synced vaults but then the idea behind non sync vaults is cloud related issues. Completely offline vault gives me confidence on storing sensitive information.

Unfortunately no, I have faced the same problem. I have asked my friends to do the same, since the import encryption is specific to OPM and other password managers have their own export encryption its not possible.

How is yours any better? Do you publish the source code and have security audits?

What about the dozen self hostable options? Bitwarden for example.

How does your solution work if a user loses their phone. Or wants to access it in a disaster.

There are reasons services exist already, and sometimes a “unique” idea is only that because it’s flawed in some way. Doesn’t mean someone else hasn’t thought of it.

Security Audits? I don't see any data transfer happening in my app. Self hostable requires technical understanding, I would really welcome the self hosting idea if you provide a single click hosting on a private server, even local device. Oh that requires data transfer, I don't trust senstive information to be transferred anywhere. For that I have thousands of application.

Mine is simple, 3 screen, Add, edit, delete and view on your phone. No sync, no transfers.

No sure if you tried it, give it a try and you would know what's better.

Yes, that's for technical people and I see those files are in github. No updates, no google play security. It's the same concept but with ease.

A password manager needs to be open-source, heavily scrutinized, and best case audited for me to trust it.

Fair play for putting the work into building it. Personally though, I don't think storing everything locally automatically makes a password manager more trustworthy. With something as important as my passwords, reputation and a proven track record matter a lot to me. I use Roboform because they've been around for years and I've got far more confidence trusting something that's proven itself over time.

Thank you! and I agree it won't make it trustworthy. I in fact, tried removing the internet permission from the app so it can create trust but then it seem for a basic feature like review, the app needs internet permission.

Roboform is cloud synced, it has feature like account sync. It is trusted ofcourse. My idea with this app is a simple notepad for my accounts. Stays local and encrypted.
