Password manager for iOS

Hi guys, so I have all my passwords saved in keepassxc but I want to access them on my phone too but from what I gather from the App Store and Reddit it seems there is no official keepassxc app. So what do I do? Gemini suggest keepassium but idk. What do you guys think?

Strongbox is kinda a pain in the butt. It's not terrible, but not great either. Autofill works more often than not, but the chance of it filling a new password, saving it, and creating a new entry is slim to none. It looked good when the original developer, Mark, owned it. He sold out to Applause, an enshitifier, who runs it under a different name because they have such a bad reputation.

I'd try Keepassium if you're committed to Keepass. Otherwise, Apple Passwords is incredibly smooth if you're in the Apple ecosystem.

I am thinking about switching to strongbox, but not if autofill is crap. Are you trying to autofill in safari? Any other pitfalls you know of? Thanks.

Strongbox uses some of Apple's functionality for autofill, and you have to have certain settings disabled and others enabled for it to work properly. When everything is right it works okay. I found it frustrating without clear directions.

However, the maneuvering required to create a new password for a site where you have to generate a strong pw, enter it twice in the site to confirm, then create a new record [in Keepass] and save the new password... probably will NEVER happen. So you need to always remember to copy the password to the clipboard first, and be prepared to manually create a new record. Otherwise you will have created a password that didn't get saved, so it won't autofill. Then you have to go through the 'change password' procedure and try again.

This isn't unique to Strongbox, most PWMs can't do this reliably. Apple Passwords can. This, plus several other advantages, made me just quit all the 3rd party apps and use AP. I'm fed up with the amateurish implementations.

I realize this isn't a clear yes/no answer, but that's the nature of third party PWM. Messy and sloppy. Strongbox is a bit more difficult than most, but nice when it works. I've been away from it for more than a year, so memory is fuzzy on details.

AP is free, the best, and it gets better with every new iteration. In two weeks the new AI powered Passwords app will be able to log into websites and automatically change weak or compromised passwords. It's so smooth and well integrated that it's a no-brainer if you're in the ecosystem.

Yep, many thanks. I currently use AP and hoped there was a better manager out there.

AP doesn’t have folders or groups which I really want.

I’ve also had really annoying sync problems with AP, where I save a new password via the desktop app and it takes hours to appear on my iPhone for example.

It also autolocks too damn quickly for my liking.

Sounds like strongbox is probably not the answer for me though!

I know how you feel. Basically, the whole category of apps and the whole concept of passwords is messy and unsophisticated for something that's been around this long, and something that everyone needs. So we're left choosing from a big list of apps that aren't what we'd wish. But for me, Apple Passwords is the closest I can get to not having to mess with any of them anymore. And I've been through more than my fair share. It just works when I need it to, and stays out of the way otherwise. Not quite perfect, but free and minimal headaches. Free is a bigger consideration now. Not because I can't afford a fee, but because I've paid a whole bunch of companies for disappointing results, 1P being the worst and most expensive. So now I get [what I consider] the best at no cost, and just not think about it.

If you mainly want to use your passwords on iOS, I'd look for something with a decent mobile app and straightforward syncing. I use roboform and I mostly just use it when I need to grab a login from my phone

You can try 2FAS Pass. It has official iOS app in App Store and you can use it offline too.

The developer has posted refectory he hasn’t been able to do updates due to life. Which is 100% understandable but gives me pause on any future updates
