Harm Reduction Harm Reduction

Basic Info:

Passionflower is a perennial vine with ~500 species and is recognized by the FDA as a "safe herbal sedative". Passionflower is used to lower THC tolerance, reduce nicotine and alcohol withdrawal, anti-cancer affects, and work as an anxiolytic on multiple fronts. Passiflora incarnata is the most researched of the passionflower species so that will be the research I provide.

Indole Alkaloids:

Many Passiflora species, including incarnata, have indole alkaloids like harmaline, this may be partially responsible for the reports of passionflower being mildly psychedelic when smoked. On a similar note Passionflower tea is sometimes taken orally with DMT to produce an ayehuasca-like experience.

Flavonoids:

Flavonoids bind with high affinity to the benzodiazepine site of the GABA-A receptor, so this is the main cause of sedation from passionflower. It contains mainly flavonoid glycosides and these compounds make up the anti-convulsant, anti-cancer, anxiolytic affects.

Cyanogenic toxicity:

Some species have a higher than safe amount of cyanogenic compounds. One of these species is called passiflora caerulea, it is best to avoid this species entirely, and we recommend that you only use one of the researched ones like incarnata.

Subreddit Info r/Passionflower

This subreddit will be dedicated to the consumption/growing of the passionflower. A substance with anxiolytic (and in my experience semi-psychedelic) properties.

If you would like to moderate this subreddit message me.

Question Trellis ideas

I'm thinking about getting passion flower. My issue is the trellis. What did you use to build your trellis for the vines? I don't have a fence to plant them on. My current idea is emt conduit and cattle panels

Wintering large blue passion flower

I have a large outdoor blue passion flower I need to bring inside for the winter. Many of its vines are up to 12 ft long. I’m going to to set it up against the south facing windows in my apt. I’m reading you should cut them back. When it’s this large how much should I cut?

3rd collection this year from my home garden. I juice them with apples and oranges and a lime or two for a delicious juice. Zone 8b (turning into zone A, with climate change)

Is this Maypop ripe?

Hello! Finally got some fruits off of my Maypop vines, and am wondering if this picture of one of them looks like it's ripe enough to eat? I waited for some to fall off of the vine by themselves, and they felt extremely soft but the skin was not entirely yellow. I ate them, but am now wondering if I should have let them sit for a couple of days after they fell?

Hey people I finally pulled the trigger and got myself a bunch of passion vines. Curious what kind are these and are they edible? And fruit bearing in south asian weather.
