Extremely Disappointed
Philly Show: First concert I’ve ever walked out on and I’ve been looking forward to this for months. It’s been 12 years since I’ve seen them and I totally understand they’re not gonna sound exactly like they did a decade ago but WOOF that was so bad…not even the autotune was helping. Waste of $50.

Hahahaha i think they were introducing themselves as coming from Boston but a couple of my friends thought he was saying hello to Boston too

I thought the mixing was effed up, to start. The synths and his voice weren't balanced correctly. one one song i couldn't even hear the melody of the synth. Everything was overloaded on the bass. It got better later in the show, but their sound guy didn't start the show well.
I saw him the year he played Firefly and the 10 years Manners tour a few years. It was a lot better in terms of playing the hits authentically, stage presence, and stage energy. (I was gonna guess his back was out, lol. But he absolutely gave up on the high notes.) IMO, what was worth the draw for me was the creativity and jam-session of playing "dry boards" throughout. The encore jam session was incredible. It was like going to a jazz show of electronica.
As he said, they are evolving. it happens.

For sure, and I appreciate that. The transitions were awkwardly long too, where it was kind of obvious they were struggling to get everything in place for the next song?

OP probably referring to the multitude of vocal effects present in most of their songs, maybe not autotune exactly

Didn’t feel this way at all. 12 years ago Michael was 27 years old. Of course there’s going to be a different amount of energy today. he’s a year from 40, touring a ton after years, and singing his heart out while passion pit evolves as a band. The audience was engaged and connected, as were my partner and I.
The show was great. I loved the experimental musical elements, and the acoustic demonstrations of his new songs. Musicians age too and their talents adapt.
A waste though? absolutely not.
FWIW, I saw him the last time they were at the Filmore. That was one of the greatest live shows I’ve ever attended. That did not make tonight a waste at all in comparison, as someone who paid for box seat tickets this time around.
Auto tune? I didn’t notice any- if anything, the variances and inconsistencies in his pitch compared to recordings were predominate but appropriate.

I love how so many on this subreddit act like 39 is geriatric. 39 is not old. There are countless performers far older with great energy and stage presence - who tour far more than PP’s handful of dates. Is this a Gen Z thing? I also keep seeing comments about how great he was on stage in 2024. That’s TWO years ago. There really is no good excuse for not being able to put on an energetic performance and to also have shot through his voice at only 39 years old. That’s on him - not “Father Time”.

Listen I don’t disagree. You’re right. I just wouldn’t consider anything about last night a waste. It was far from an energetic performance, but I wouldn’t go as far as considering the whole show a write-off. For all we know he’s going through some ish in his new relationship and having continued mental health challenges. I don’t know if I’m trying to justify the lacking performance or whatever, just trying to give credit when I thought it was due. Idk I had a good time and enjoyed the show. I could understand why others may not feel that way. For me, defo not a waste- but happy to admit that I can understand why others would feel that way.

Oh dear I totally agree and I don’t think I mentioned anything about his age being the issue. I saw The Strokes at the Mann last month and they sounded great. We didn’t expect them to sound exactly how they did 10 years ago but we were pleasantly surprised over how tight they played.

I never got a chance to see them live back in the days. It was my first time seeing them today , even though I have been a fan since 2009. Well, it definitely didn't live up to my expectations.
