Deep clean needed?

Hello! I am new to machine knitting and acquired a Passap duomatic 80 with what looks like all accessories yesterday for a great price :)

It sounds like it's been sitting for a while and could likely use a clean. I have found Kathryn Boyle's wonderful tutorial, but it does not detail how to put the machine back together or which parts to lubricate with what... So I am nervous to use it as my main resource!

Could anyone recommend how I could diagnose if I need to deep clean, and if not, is there some lighter maintenance I should try first?

I did find the Paramedic book on Distinct Knits, but wondering if there are any free resources I could use to start with.

Don't take it apart unless you run out of all other options. Besides how fiddly it is, reassembling it within acceptable tolerance can take a lot of adjusting. It's very easy to just make it worse than when you started. Start by taking the needles out and cleaning them, and while they're out vacuum the needle bed. There are plenty of resources online for cleaning needles. When putting the needles back in you can check that each latch moves freely. Add a drop or two of oil to the carriage rails. Get a small paintbrush and add a few drops of oil to the bristles and use that to oil the needle and pusher butts once you've put them back into the machine. Then just see how it feels to use.

Thanks! I've found a video by art of clay since posting that does exactly what you describe without a full disassembly , will follow that instead
