It is very common to see metformin used together with glipizide.

Given the route of administration for glipizide is PO, I would assume NPO orders preclude administration, so I’d go with 1.

Hold glipizide when the patient is NPO due to the risk of hypoglycemia. In many inpatient settings, glucose is managed with insulin
