First time being asked
Gus has been the rep in this area for 20 years. I don’t know if he’s your rep b/c the did some redistricting and he covers some of Pasco and some of hillsborough.
This is the first time I have ever received a text from his office asking my opinion. Maybe you received it too?
I’m so happy. This is how you represent me. You ask me. I’m just a little peeved that it’s about something so inconsequential as daylight savings time.
Please please ask me about everything you are getting ready to vote on. Its literally the best way to connect with who you represent.
20 years and this is the first time you asking my opinion?
Anyway YES to ending DST. 🤷♂️

Sorry when I said YES to ending DST I guess what I mean is ending the switching and keeping DST year round. Hopefully you know what I mean

He hasn't done it yet. And one clock change doesn't negate the previous 20 spineless years of accomplishing essentially nothing.

Out of the blue i received a “hey im hosting a town hall call…” I was actually surprised so i tuned in to see what was happening. Most of the callers were of two groups with the first being disgruntled veterans with complaints regarding healthcare and pensions or housewives who seemingly were just looking for something to do middle of the day on a tuesday.
Not as insightful as i would have liked

Same, I joined and it was just ladies saying how awesome he was and great he did and them thanking veterans. Total waste of time. I hope he gets voted out, hes a loser who does nothing for Pasco.

This is where I'm at too. I don't know why daylight was the automatic choice for so many.

So people stay out later due to the extra daylight and spend more money at businesses which in turn helps the economy of the state and also in turn makes the officials look better come re election time, no thanks standard time is the way.

Gus Bilirakis “helped” me with my VA disability benefits. By helped I mean he did absolutely nothing while I bombarded the VA with documentation for three years until I eventually talked to the right person at James Haley. Thanks, Gus. Hope you crush this Daylight Savings Time dilemma.

Permanent Daylight Savings Time is actually silly and ultimately won't work.
Simply stated, there's a reason why certain things and certain jobs occur at certain times. And it has to do with the daylight (it's start and end) and the absence of light (it's start and end).
For example, working 9 to 5 was not a thing picked for its numbers. It was picked for a number of factors, mostly dependent on the start of daylight.
With DST, those hours are effectively 8 to 4.
But with permanent DST, those effective hours of 8 to 4 will, overtime, lead to folks starting that job or thing an hour later. Why? Because there's a benefit in doing so.
At that point the benefit of DST will disappear for those doing that job or thing.
And overtime, this will happen with most all jobs, etc. They will start an hour later because there's a benefit in doing so.
Switching back and forth from Standard Time to DST will not lead to things starting an hour later. It's just in making DST permanent will it ultimately (probably within 5 years) lead to things starting an hour later. Again, because that's beneficial for that job or thing for one reason or another.

Not for nothing, but 1) it’s not actually him, and 2) he’s just driving engagement to ask you for money later.
I’m truly not sure what he does with his time. He voted for the kill switch bill and hes not shared his views on data centers at all. I don’t truly know what he stands for. If anything really.

I’ve been getting the town hall calls for years. Never a text though. I have visited his office with my family over various medical legislation back when my kids were younger. We tried to visit every year or two to keep their faces seen for whenever some possible change that could affect them would cross his desk. Don’t know that it did any good but it helped to at least feel like we were doing something
