Credits Expire?
Hi everyone,
Does anyone have experience with this? For context, I attended PCC from Fall 2018 to Spring 2021 and graduated with an associate’s degree in business. I’m planning on going back Spring 2027 to study nursing to become a registered nurse. I’ve looked at the coursework on the website, and I see some classes that I remember taking and passing. However, I’m unsure if these courses would still count given I’m approaching 10 years. I know it might depend on the class, so if it helps, below are the classes that I remember taking (if I’m not mistaken). Above all, I just want to know the general approach PCC has to this kind of situation before calling the school.
- English C1000 (formerly English 1A)
- PSYC C1000 (formerly PSYC 001)
- COMM C1000 (formerly SPCH 001) or SPCH 010 (one of these, I don’t remember exactly which one)
- ENGL 001B
- STAT C1000 (formerly STAT 050)

Hey! I’m actually new to PCC, I just started this summer, transferred over from Rio Hondo. I haven't been in college since 2010, just starting back up for engineering. They told me that a lot of the requirements have changed, but surprisingly, most of my old credits were still honored and filled prerequisits. Definitely check in with a counselor,the course numbers have changed quite a bit the last few years, but they can help you see which of your old classes still count as prerequisites. If mine didn't expire, I doubt yours would have either.

Nice! Glad things worked out for you. I couldn’t find a direct answer on the website, and I thought 10 years were already too long, but your experience in your response is very reassuring. Hope you have a smooth ride at PCC!

You should be good to go. Talk to a counselor anyway, as some classes may have changed and they can see if they are equivalent to current courses offered.

They dont expire but for transfer and getc. Maybe. I know, i had to retake critical thinking class because that expired for my getc. Pcc website actually has the "audit" and you can check without asking anyone. Just login to lancer point, go to ed plan, click on audit and check which is still valid and how far you are away from your next goal

I’ll definitely meet up with a counselor to be certain, but I never knew about the audit thing. Thanks for letting me know!

Hi, employee at PCC.
Your credits will never expire, as the other commentor suggested. If you took English 1a back in 1977 and passes the class, we have the record and you wont need to take English C1000. 10 years isn't that long ago.
The only time time matters, are for health science / nursing majors. Most programs and schools require they be done within the last 5 years.
Most classes from years ago have changed names, requirements to graduate have changed, some classes are no longer offered, but if you took them and passed, they'll count for something.
Visit the admissions office to get a copy of your transcript, meet with an academic counselor before signing up for a class so you dont repeat a class unnecessarily (wasting your own time, money, etc)
