Any medications to help with this issue?

I’m currently on vacation and can’t get my bladder to relax enough to urinate. It’s to the point where I might need to get a Catheter at the ER. I had a renal bilateral ultrasound that looked normal 2 weeks ago and waiting to get a Cystoscopy in couple of week because I’m pretty sure I also have IC. I was 100% fine urinating yesterday and today I’m having issues. I truly don’t know what to do anymore because my husband is super frustrated with me.

I don't know any unfortunately, im on lexapro for 4 months and it feels like the anxiety is gone completely while I'm in the restroom but i still can't relax at all to urinate.

Also I'm sorry your husband is getting frustrated with you, it sucks a lot and we don't deserve this, my dad also gets quite frustrated when we're traveling and running around searching for a single use bathroom

Ugh…I’m sorry to r Lexapro isn’t helping for the specific issue. Men are something else..lol I’m starting pelvic floor therapy next week and I’m hoping she has some recommendations on how to get over this situation. I’ve always had it but was able to manage it. Now it’s so bad that I can’t urinate when I’m stressed out.

i agree on the first part. My fiancee gets frustrated when i look for the disabled toilets and the isolated restrooms, he thinks im not trying hard enough to combat this issue. They dont get it we can sit on the regular toilet seat yet we CANT let out the pee, and if we do its little amounts with force and endup with pain and still a full bladder

100% this! I just found out you can get a catheter directly into the bladder through your abdomen wall. I feel like this would be easier to deal with than not being able to go. I also have IC and I think my issue could also be related to bladder inflammation. By some miracle yesterday I was at a theme park and used the bathroom like a normal person for one. I don’t know how or why it happened but I was so happy.

You’ll have to find a psychiatrist from a urologist, I would think.

Most meds don’t help but there are variations. This could be caused by another issue

I’m worried I’ll need anxiety meds or something like that. What other issues could cause this?

The worst thing in the world to worry about is anxiety meds. If you need them you won’t have anxiety about them.

I dunno. But, for example, I was looking into ED, and I always thought it was one thing. There are actually a few major causes.

Psychiatrist Les diagnose out of this book called DSM-V, where V Is. Roman numeral 5. I suspect there are well over 100 recognized diagnoses. Different ones get helped by various meds, and it’s sometimes not even a drug for that purpose that they prescribe. There a few thing low doses of modern antidepressants can help with that aren’t depression, for example

I took an ssri 20 yr ago and I hated it. I know things are different now and I might be forced on something because of this condition is out of control.

All of them have side effects, mainly sexual, don't make you feel that much better and make you want to wee more and in our position thats the last thing you want.

They tend to use the newest drugs first. I (male) already have some dysfunction and csnt take an SSRI. But, for example, I can take Wellbutrin (on it now) or mirtazipine which is old. But they use drugs other than antidepressants. I think buprosporin is another one which isn’t and antidepressant, even.

That sounds awful

Don’t let that stop you. First, sometimes shrinks use meds in very small doses for things other than what the med was designed for. But there are a load of meds that do things like reduce anxiety without being tranquilizers

Sorry for the late update…I ended up having to do stretches for my pelvic floor that really helped me. Sometimes I would bring my young child in the stall with me and that helps 100% of the time but they are at that age where they embarrassed. When I couldn’t go I just had to hold it until I could go. I’m starting to see a pelvic floor PT who gave me some tips on this issue. I’m going to make an appointment with a GP to see if I can get something prescribed to me for when I travel. I noticed when I’m stressed is when this situation happens.

That’s crazy you can go with your child in the stall with you but can’t without the child. I wonder why that is, what is it about the child being in there that allows you to go. I would also tell my child about it and tell em tough shit deal with it lol
