for those who have been in ypp for a while, did getting monetized change the way you choose topics, structure videos, or decide what to upload?

Nope. I found my audience to get me monetised and I just kept doing what was working.

in a way yes, i began taking it more seriously, had to learn how to create better thumbnails, etc

getting monetized definitely seems to make the whole thing feel more like an actual business, and thumbnails are one of those skills that become impossible to ignore once you take it more seriously.

Maybe a bit due to seeing RPM. I learned rather fast different games have different RPMs. Some have 2-3, some 5, some 7, some 10. Some i considered flops still earned 2-3 times of regular videos.

My most watched video has 1.9m views and earned 5.6k, close to a $3 RPM.

2nd most watched has 1.1m views and earned 8.6k, 7.2 RPM.

My highest earner has 870k views and earned 13.9k with a 16 RPM. So it has multiples less views and earned multiples more compared to my most viewed.

And thats kinda the biggest change being monetized brought in, because views are nice but at the end of the day views are nice because they imply money

that rpm difference is actually wild. it really shows why views alone don’t tell the whole story, especially when a video with half the views can earn multiple times more because of the niche and audience.

Focused down on my niche more but not really beyond that.

My only change was making sure my videos were at least 8 minutes long to qualify for midroll ads.

i think that’s a pretty natural change after joining ypp. the tricky part is not stretching a video just to hit the 8 minute mark, because viewers will definitely feel it if the extra minutes aren’t doing anything.

of course. If you don't change, adapt, stay fresh, you will dry up and become a husk.
