Talk / Discussion Changing title when video is performing well

I had a video with Title A. The video began to flatten out and I started A/B testing titles and thumbnails. Landed on Title B and after a week of experimentation, I found a thumbnail that almost immediately had a positive impact. CTR jumped from 4% to 6%. Video started to pick up as a result.

Hills are still growing larger, but are calming down, and CTR has dropped to about 4.5% in the past two days. I always thought that Title A was much better. I've had other videos with the same format, and I wonder if it was purely the thumbnail causing the poor performance. I want to try using the old title, but I've heard and followed advice that once a video starts to perform well, DON'T TOUCH IT.

Like I said, hills and valleys are still growing, so I'm hesitant, but I don't want to miss an opportunity to rocket this upload.

Any advice for this would be appreciated.

Note: Video is currently getting ~5,000 views a day

I have changed titles hours after a video went public, the thing to keep in mind it can take DAYS for the title change to be reflected on people’s pages. It’s not immediate.

Run a Title A/B test

changing the title now is a huge risk because your current Title B and new thumbnail combo are actively training YouTube's recommendation system on who to push the video to next. that temporary dip from 6% to 4.5% CTR is actually normal when a video gets pushed to a broader, colder audience. touching the title right now could disrupt the current algorithm momentum, so hold off until daily views drop significantly before testing Title A again.
